Titular Professors
The main objective of this course is to explore, demonstrate, and practice the use of digital painting tools available in Photoshop, in order to maximize their potential as artistic tools, rather than as a photo editing software for which it was initially designed. Knowledge will be imparted on color theory as applied to painting, pictorial composition, and understanding of lighting. The ultimate goal is for students to acquire skills in handling digital painting tools (brushes, textures, layers, etc.), as well as in the use of color, lighting, and composition, prioritizing the learning process over the completion of a specific final project.
Learning Outcomes of this subject are:
RA53: "Upon completion of learning, the student will be able to apply the fundamentals of digital painting, color, and composition in their artistic projects."

The proposed class structure is divided into several sections:
1. Preparation of Workspace and Initial Explanation (20 to 30 minutes, dynamic): We will begin with an introduction to the class, setting up the workspace, and establishing the tone for the session. This part will be dynamic, fostering an environment conducive to learning.
2. Theory: This section will include the visualization of references and the analysis of contemporary styles, among other relevant theoretical aspects for digital painting.
3. Feedback on Previous Assignments: Time will be dedicated to reviewing and discussing exercises completed in previous classes, providing feedback and continuous learning opportunities.
4. Explanation of the Day's Exercise and Due Date: The day's exercise will be explained, either by demonstrating it live for students to follow or by showing clear and detailed examples. The due date for the exercise will be announced.
5. Practical Class (3.30 hours) and Individual Feedback: During this phase, students will work on the day's exercise while the instructor provides individualized assistance and feedback, moving around the room to offer support where needed.
Additionally, the following materials will be provided in the course:
- Presentations with information covered in class and assignment requirements.
- Packs of brushes, textures, etc., to facilitate the creative process.
- References and useful websites that students can use as additional resources outside the classroom.
Submissions (grade Percentages)
10% Attendance and participation
15% Animal illustration (approx. 85% final result, 15% dossier)
15% Nude illustration (approx. 85% final result, 15% dossier)
15% Organic background illustration (approx. 85% final result, 15% dossier)
15% Urban background illustration (approx. 85% final result, 15% dossier)
30% Final illustration (approx. 85% final result, 15% dossier)
The naming and format of the submissions are specified in the course syllabus and will be reminded before each submission. Submitting in an incorrect format will result in a penalty.
The minimum grade required for each assignment to be averaged is 5/10. Failed assignments must be resubmitted at the end of the course. Failed or unsubmitted (NP) assignments must also be submitted at the end of the course but will have a maximum grade of 6. To calculate the final average and pass the course, all assignments must be submitted.
Failing the final illustration will result in failing the regular assessment period, with no possibility of resubmission in this period.
If a project is visibly unfinished (at the professor's discretion), it will receive an automatic failing grade.
There is a possibility of one resubmission opportunity for improving assignments based on attendance and individual engagement during the course. This is subject to the professor's criteria, with a maximum grade increase of 1 point.
Attendance Policy:
Exceeding three unexcused absences will result in failing the attitude section with a 0 (which accounts for 10% of the grade).
- Arriving late counts as an absence.
- Working on assignments from other courses during class counts as an absence.
- Leaving before the class ends counts as an absence.
Continuous assessment: The final grade will consider the student's engagement in class, submission of assignments and tasks, and the professor's evaluation criteria.
Extraordinary assessment: Students who do not pass the regular evaluation have the opportunity to pass the course in the extraordinary assessment period.
Evaluation Criteria for All Assessments: If the conditions to pass are not met, the maximum grade will be 4. Students have the right to request a grade review on the date set by the professor. During the review, the grade may either increase or decrease.
