At La Salle we have a Research Ethics Committee (CER-Salle) for those researchers who require advice or the issuance of opinions on the ethical implications of their research projects.
The CER-Salle carries out its functions independently and transparently, in accordance with the ethical standards and recommendations, and ensuring the most widely recognized ethical principles such as autonomy, justice, benevolence and non-malevolence, towards individual beings, collective beings and ecosystems.
Biomedical research with biological human samples and clinical trials with medicines are excluded from the CER-Salle's area of competence.
As part of the Ramon Llull University (URL), the URL also has a Research Ethics Committee of the URL (CER-URL). In this context, if an opinion is required on a research project submitted on behalf of the URL, the CER-Salle will not provide the opinion in favour of the CER-URL and, therefore, such opinion must be requested to the CER-URL.
Therefore, the functions of CER-Salle are:
- Participate in and coordinate with the CER-URL.
- Evaluate and issue opinions, at the request of the Campus researchers, in relation to research projects and scientific-based works, including Final Degree Theses or Master's Theses, based on the evaluation of their ethical implications, and which due to their characteristics do not have to be evaluated by the CER-URL.
- Prepare reports at the request of the Campus governing bodies on the activity of the CER-Salle or on the ethical aspects of the research activity.
- Promote the debate on the ethical implications of research.
- Any other function that may be entrusted to it by the Campus governing bodies.
Currently, the CER-Salle is composed by the following members and it also has the collaboration of the Data Protection Officer in those projects with personal data:
- Dr. Josep Espuny, President
- Dra. Leticia Duboc
- Dra. Núria Martí
- Dr. Ricard Mejía
- Dr. Eoin Phillips
- Dr. Carles Garriga
