Digital sculpting II

Description:

The course is based on the in?depth study of ZBrush software and its digital sculpting tools. By creating two “projects” (a creature or animal, real or fictional, and a complete human biped character), we will examine the creation process from scratch for both figures, using different techniques and a wide range of tools and resources within the program to achieve the optimal and desired result.

Having completed Digital Sculpture I

Objectives:

The objective of the course is to deepen the advanced use of ZBrush and its main tools for organic modeling. Students will learn to develop a complete workflow by creating two pieces: a creature or animal, and a human biped character. The acquisition of digital sculpting techniques will be reinforced to build forms from scratch, define anatomy, and apply details efficiently.

Students will also work with specific tools and resources within the software to obtain polished and consistent models, prepared for future production stages. Finally, the course will encourage creative autonomy and the ability to analyze and optimize one’s own workflow.

Contents:

Block 1: Creation of a creature

Block 2: Creation of a character

Methodology:

In this course, we will study the ZBrush digital sculpting software in depth, along with its main tools and actions for creating characters, creatures, objects, and environments.

By following a specific workflow, students will be able to create any asset with a high level of detail, not only sculpted but also textured. Each session will be divided into two parts:

Initial theory section: Through lectures and audiovisual/graphic documentation, students will be taught the steps to follow throughout the creation process.

Practical classroom work: Students will apply the theoretical content and receive the feedback needed to resolve doubts and continue advancing in the process.

It is important for students to take their own notes, as throughout the course we will cover numerous tools, actions, and program resources, and remembering their location within the many menus will be essential.

Evaluation:

“Creature” Exercise = 50% of the final grade (highly significant)

“Character” Exercise = 50% of the final grade (highly significant)

Final grade = average of the two exercises.

The course will also include small weekly submissions during both exercises, serving as process?control to provide feedback (moderately significant).

Evaluation Criteria:

The use of models downloaded from the internet, reused from other students, and/or modified with AI is strictly prohibited. Any model (or exercise) submitted that was not created by the student will be considered a Very Serious Pre?meditated Offense (see plagiarism regulations), resulting in a 0 for the exercise, an NP for the course, and the opening of an academic misconduct file for the student(s) involved.
