Description: 

The aim of this course is to provide the basic conversational skills in Spanish, Chinese or German to interact in general social and business situations. Emphasis will be placed on practical interactive exercises that can be used in real life situations. Spanish is available to all foreign students, while local students choose beteen German and Chinese.

Upon completion of this course the students should be able:

  • To speak and understand at a basic level in Spanish, Chinese or German.
  • To understand the basic grammatical forms in Spanish, Chinese or German.
  • To have a basic listening and reading comprehension in Spanish, Chinese or German.

Evaluation: 

Evaluation System:

30% of your final grade will be based on quality class participation and coursework. Quality participation being defined as active in-class participation, quizzes, delivering scheduled presentations, homework completion.

20% of your final grade will be based on the Mid-term oral exam.

20% of your final grade will be based on the Mid-term written exam.

15% of your final grade will be based on the Final oral exam.

15% of your final grade will be based on the Final written exam.

Evaluation Criteria: 

Class Participation, coursework and exams


Excellent (9–10): Active participation, consistent preparation, all assignments completed on time, strong engagement.
Good (7–8.9): Regular participation, good preparation, most assignments completed satisfactorily.
Satisfactory (5–6.9): Occasional participation, minimum requirements completed, limited engagement.
Unsatisfactory (0–4.9): Rare participation, incomplete work, poor preparation and attendance.
