Final Thesis

Description
The Final Thesis is the synthesis of all the degree. It consists of a study, design and implementation of a project in the field of ICT and management. This work is guided by a professor that provides mentoring and guidance throughout the project development. Under his supervision, the student produces a report with the theoretical and practical or research aspects of the project. Some complementary seminars can help students guide their work properly. Depending on the type of work, the time dedication over the different project aspects can be distributed differently.

Previous Knowledge

To register for the Final Thesis it is required to have passed, or be simultaneously enrolled, in all subjects that make up the degree (considering the enrollment restrictions that may exist).

The Final Thesis requires the prior knowledge of all matters of the degree, being the most important the ones related to the project to be developed.

Objectives

The learning outcomes of the Final Grade are:

- Have deepened on a specific topic of the study area of the Degree, applying the knowledge learned along it, and showing capacity for analysis and troubleshooting in an original or new way.

- Have the ability to organize and plan, as well as the ability to search and manage information.

- Have communicated the work of writing and have exposed publicly to experts and non-experts in the field.

Contents

The content of the subject will depend on the area of study chosen for the Final Thesis.

Methodology

The training activities that the student will continue to carry out the Final Thesis can be divided into the following categories:

- The mentoring by the professor who will guide and advise the student during the various stages of the work.

- The study and personal work that the student has to perform from the existing literature on the subject and of the tools that help its implementation.

- The use of specific online or classroom courses to complete the training of the student and assist him in the implementation and dissemination of work.

Evaluation

In the Final Thesis, the evaluation is carried out by a jury that bases the grade on the report, the oral presentation and, when appropriate, the practical demonstration. The defense of the Final Thesis is a public event.

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation criteria take into account aspects such as: domain knowledge, methodology, clarity of presentation, the capacity of synthesis and oral presentation, answers to questions from the jury, in the case of a practical demonstration, the proper functioning of the developed project, an economic study, a user manual, in the case of a project oriented to research, the study of the State of the art, the novelty of the topic, or the innovativeness of the contributions, among others.

More specifically the evaluation criteria are based on four pillars:

- The assessment of the mentoring professor: assessing the autonomy, troubleshooting capacity, and planning and compliance to objectives.

- The assessment by the jury: evaluation of the content of the work, its novelty and results.

- Technical report: evaluation of the ability of written communication and information search and management.

- Oral presentation: assessment of oral communications skills.

Depends on the specific area of the project.
