The course introduces the students to the elemental concepts of business strategy, creation and financing, with a special focus on the particularities of audiovisual production companies and the factors that affect them both fiscally, legally and from the social responsibility point of view.

- Get familiar with the business environment and main stakeholders in animation sector in Catalonia/Spain.
- Understand how to make a business plan and how to look for financial resources.
- Distinguish the different types of legal entities, as well as the freelance system and the incorporation process.
- Know the legal, fiscal and labour-related obligations derived from the audiovisual production, according to the current Spanish and European legislation.
- Identify the different financing tools available for audiovisual projects (public and private financing).
- Innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Sources of information and market research.
- Sources of financing and collaborative economy.
- Environment of the animation sector in Spain and Catalonia.
- Business plan.
- Concept, structure and content of a business plan.
- Marketing plan and strategy.
- Organizational plan: natural VS legal persons (freelances and corporations).
- Bureaucracy and financial aids for business incorporation.
- Legal Audiovisual Code.
- Legal definitions and regulatory framework for the sector.
- Rights and obligations of audiovisual production companies.
- Audiovisual financing: private investment from broadcasters.
- Audiovisual financing: public grants and tax incentives.
The subject combines the following elements: theory masterclasses, debates, analysis of cases (whether real or fictional) and practical exercises.
The evaluation combines the following elements:
- Practical exercises to deliver. Solutions of the exercises are always discussed in class after delivery.
- Partial exams (tests) after each thematic part.
- Final exam consisting on open-answer questions where students have to take decisions over a practical case.
- Class attendance, participation on discussions and delivery of exercises are the factors to conform and value the continuous evaluation.
In case any student fails the subject, there will be an extraordinary exam call in July or an additional recovery task to do, under the criteria of the teacher(s).
