Term 1

Environmental Architecture (8 ECTS)

Through a series of classes and lectures, together with practical examples, the student will learn to apply the strategic criteria of sustainability, through the design of passive systems, the evaluation of the environmental impacts derived from the chosen materials, as well as studying one of the most powerful digital tools for the optimisation of energy demand and verification of the project.

Sustainable urbanism (8 ECTS)

This module explores the strategic pillars for sustainable development of cities, with the main aim of improving interventions in the local area, urban renewal and the design of new growth. Students will work on a practical exercise where they will study concepts such as urban resilience, and efficient systems will be applied on a large scale.



Term 2

Active Systems (8 ECTS)

Students will work with active systems promoting the energy efficiency of buildings from design to calculation and architectural implementation. The student will be introduced to solar thermal and photovoltaic systems and efficient air conditioning systems.

Energy Audits and Certifications (8 ECTS)

By means of examples and practical exercises, all the concepts of the course are connected in order to generate a complete energy audit. The student will also recognise different certification systems and green certifications.

Term 3:

Personal Skills (3 ECTS)

To achieve career success, students need to develop a wide range of personal skills in order to focus efforts in the right direction. The goal of this module is to guide the student in awareness of their management skills to achieve a better understanding of the background of human relationships, improving their ability to resolve conflicts and their team management skills. This takes the form of a journey of self-knowledge in pursuit of career goals.

Managing the Technical Project (5 ECTS)

In order to be able to produce a successful technical project, students must learn the main aspects, actors and documentation involved in the management of a technical project. This module focuses on understanding the different actors and factors that come into play in a project, from its very inception, in order for students to learn the criteria, instruments and methods that can influence the subsequent development and execution of construction works.

Managing Industrial Contractors, Subcontractors and Suppliers (5 ECTS)

Managing suppliers that take part in construction projects is one of the aspects that most affects proper execution of a project in terms of time, quality and budget. This module covers subjects that will allow students to gain a clear idea of the reality of how to contact and manage suppliers of materials and components, industrial contractors and subcontractors, coordinating and overseeing execution of construction work.

Managing the Construction Process (5 ECTS)

Execution of a construction project entails several financial and legal administrative formalities. This module will look at the problems associated with financial management, and students will learn how to provide fast, flexible solutions for the difficulties and unforeseen events that may take place throughout execution of a project, and how to include these in the project, taking into account any applicable regulations.

Managing the Quality of Works (5 ECTS)

In order for a construction project to be successful, the main general aspects of management and quality control on the construction site must be taken into account. Students will work on oversight throughout the construction process, with a focus on those moments that may present greatest risks, emphasising prevention to avoid future problems through methods and protocols.

Managing Finished Builds (5 ECTS)

Management of finished builds, also known as Facility Management, looks to optimise and rationalise the use of companies’ material assets, provide services with the right balance between cost and quality and provide working environments that allow users of the building to carry out their activities efficiently. This module explores the main concepts relating to this discipline, in order to provide students with the basic concepts to carry out this task successfully.


End-of-Master’s Project

End-of-Master’s Project (30 ECTS)

The End-of-Master’s Project consists of the redaction of a project, presentation and a public defence, and may be taken once all the credits of the syllabus have been successfully obtained. The project will consist of an original exercise carried out individually before a university tribunal, and will offer a comprehensive, professional-level project in the field of construction in which the competences acquired in the master’s are synthesised.
