DIGITAL. PARAMETRIC DESIGN

Description
This course focuses on exploring the mechanisms of parametric design, with the aim of distinguishing them from conventional formal definition processes. The concept of the ?open work? will be addressed, where there is no single closed formal result, but rather a set of variations generated through the modification of parameters. This approach allows form to be understood as a dynamic and adaptable system, rather than as a static and predefined outcome. Formal grammars will be introduced as a tool to structure the generation of forms, and algorithms capable of producing automatic geometries will be developed. In addition, predefined scripts will be used to automate processes and facilitate the creation of complex forms, thus exploring the potential of computational thinking applied to design. The main objective of the course is to enable students to intervene in different phases of architectural design?such as façade configuration, structural design, or pavement composition?using parametric techniques. The integration of these techniques with conventional methodologies will be encouraged, and students will be able to observe how the results achieved are more efficient, flexible, and adaptable. This combination will help optimize both the creative process and its execution.
