Learning Outcomes of this subject are:
GTAS-RA-11 Control the concept of network, its architecture, deployment and services.
GTAS-RA-12Differentiate the characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and main applications of circuit and packet
switching strategies.
GTAS-RA-63 Proficiency on the design, configuration and implementation of the devices that form a data network. GTAS-RA-64 Know the basic architecture of a networking system, as well as the common tools and techniques used to
build and analyze them.
The subject consists of three well-differentiated learning modules:
Introduction to Networks module (CCNA1). Design and technologies for scalable networks, level-2 and level-3
redundancy and advanced understanding and configuration of the major dynamic routing protocols.
Routing and Switching Essentials Module (CCNA2). Fundamental concepts of Wide Area Networks (WAN), technologies and protocols for remote networks interconnection, advanced access control lists (ACLs) application, quality of service (QoS), network security and monitoring, the Internet of the Future and
troubleshooting.
Specifically, the subject Internet Architecture and Protocols consists of two different modules (ScaN, CN). To achieve the necessary knowledge, the following activities are carried out for each module:
Master classes. First, the students are advised to take a look at the chapter at home before the class, so that they can take advantage of the master lesson to finish acquiring the theoretical knowledge and being able to make the pertinent doubts. These master lessons aim to highlight the key concepts of each chapter.
Laboratory exercises for each chapter. Guided practices that will be done at the CCNA laboratory where students learn to implement the technologies and protocols of the chapter with real physical devices.
Online exams for each chapter. Self-evaluation of each chapter that takes place outside class hours so that the student sees, once the chapter has been studied, if the concepts have been correctly assimilated.
Case Studies. In order to reinforce the theoretical contents of the subject, apart from the laboratory exercises, the following exercises will be carried out (which encompass all the knowledge of the module):
o Case Study ScaN (CCNA3)
o Case Study CN (CCNA4)
Theoretical final exam of the module. Final test that evaluates the theoretical knowledge of the student.
Practical final exam of the module. Final test that evaluates the student's abilities to apply the learned
knowledge in a practical scenario.
Portfolio.
The activities that will be evaluated for each module are:
A. Partial online exams
Test type (~20q)
It is passed with 70%
Failed tests will be retaken as soon as possible
B. Theoretical Final Exam
Test type (~50q)
It is passed with 70%
C. Practical Final Exam
Devices Configuration - It is passed with 50%
D. Case Study
It is passed with 50%
E. Practices book
To evaluate the book, the student must deliver at least all the mandatory practices
It is advised to extend the practices proposed to the planning of the course (optional)
Arquitectura i Protocols dInternet Curs 2019-2020
Internet Architecture and Protocols 2019-2020 Academic year
Arquitectura y Protocolos de Internet Curso 2019-2020
F. Class attendance
Two faults are allowed without justification for each module. As of the third foul without justification,
points will be deducted from the attendance note.
To pass the subject, at least half of the classes must be attended for each module (except if there is a
justification for a major cause). Therefore, if the student does not assist, at least, half of the classes of
each module, the subject is automatically failed.
IMPORTANT: At most, two examinations per module can be suspended considering the Online and Theoretical Final exams (each test suspended deduces 0.15 points from the final mark of the subject = Penalty(P))
