Degree in Design and Creation of Interactive Products

Architectures and internet protocols

Description
The subject of Internet Architecture and Protocols aims to provide students with mid-level knowledge about networks through a combination of activities such as master lectures and a strong presence of laboratory tutorials with real equipment that give support to and enforce learning materials. The subject incorporates the knowledge associated with the last two modules (ScaN, CN) of the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) formation level offered by the Cisco Networking Academy Program (CNAP). In this subject, the following CNAP learning modules will be carried out: • ScaN - Scaling to Networks (CCNA3) • CN – Connecting Networks (CCNA4) The whole learning materials will be in English, but the master classes and the teacher's support can be in Spanish or Catalan. The subject provides the necessary knowledge to design, build and maintain scalable medium-sized networks of computers, including: IP addressing, advanced routing, fundamental security measures, redundancy, scalability, heterogenous networks interconnection, monitoring, troubleshooting, etc. The subject Internet Architecture and Protocols aims to train students to obtain the necessary knowledge to: • Design and build scalable local area computer networks applying high availability criteria. • Install, configure and perform the operation of medium-sized local area networks (LAN). • Maintain medium-sized computer networks build with level 2 (commuting) and level 3 (routing) devices. • Install, configure and perform the operation of wide area networks (WAN) and access services to medium-sized networks. • Acquire the necessary knowledge necessary to take the official certification Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). • Monitor a network to detect errors and apply troubleshooting best practices to recover the network’s correct state. Competències generals CG5 Habilitats de gestió de la informació Competències específiques CE7 Desenvolupar i administrar infraestructures tecnològiques per la comunicació, gestió i manteniment de sistemes informàtics. Arquitectura i Protocols d’Internet Curs 2019-2020 Internet Architecture and Protocols 2019-2020 Academic year Arquitectura y Protocolos de Internet Curso 2019-2020 With the knowledge acquired in Internet Architecture and Protocols you will be able to carry out the following tasks of a computer network technician: • Install and configure routers and switches in multi-protocol networks. • Network devices monitorization and troubleshooting. • Perform level-1 support tasks. If students pass Internet Architecture and Protocols and previously have passed Local Area Networks, they will acquire a good base for obtaining themselves the official Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification by taking the Cisco Exam 200- 125 CCNA. Once the subject has finished, two qualifications can be obtained: • A diploma of the CNAP (Cisco Networking Academy Program) for the completion of each module. • The official CCNA certification for the completion and passing of the 200-125 CCNA exam (this exam is carried out in an external certifying entity outside La Salle).

Previous Knowledge
Objectives

Learning Outcomes of this subject are:
GTAS-RA-11 Control the concept of network, its architecture, deployment and services.
GTAS-RA-12Differentiate the characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and main applications of circuit and packet
switching strategies.
GTAS-RA-63 Proficiency on the design, configuration and implementation of the devices that form a data network. GTAS-RA-64 Know the basic architecture of a networking system, as well as the common tools and techniques used to
build and analyze them.

Contents

The subject consists of three well-differentiated learning modules:
• Introduction to Networks module (CCNA1). Design and technologies for scalable networks, level-2 and level-3
redundancy and advanced understanding and configuration of the major dynamic routing protocols.
• Routing and Switching Essentials Module (CCNA2). Fundamental concepts of Wide Area Networks (WAN), technologies and protocols for remote networks interconnection, advanced access control lists (ACLs) application, quality of service (QoS), network security and monitoring, the Internet of the Future and
troubleshooting.

Methodology

Specifically, the subject Internet Architecture and Protocols consists of two different modules (ScaN, CN). To achieve the necessary knowledge, the following activities are carried out for each module:
• Master classes. First, the students are advised to take a look at the chapter at home before the class, so that they can take advantage of the master lesson to finish acquiring the theoretical knowledge and being able to make the pertinent doubts. These master lessons aim to highlight the key concepts of each chapter.
• Laboratory exercises for each chapter. Guided practices that will be done at the CCNA laboratory where students learn to implement the technologies and protocols of the chapter with real physical devices.
• Online exams for each chapter. Self-evaluation of each chapter that takes place outside class hours so that the student sees, once the chapter has been studied, if the concepts have been correctly assimilated.
• Case Studies. In order to reinforce the theoretical contents of the subject, apart from the laboratory exercises, the following exercises will be carried out (which encompass all the knowledge of the module):
o Case Study ScaN (CCNA3)
o Case Study CN (CCNA4)
• Theoretical final exam of the module. Final test that evaluates the theoretical knowledge of the student.
• Practical final exam of the module. Final test that evaluates the student's abilities to apply the learned
knowledge in a practical scenario.
• Portfolio.

Evaluation

The activities that will be evaluated for each module are:
A. Partial online exams
• Test type (~20q)
• It is passed with 70%
• Failed tests will be retaken as soon as possible
B. Theoretical Final Exam
• Test type (~50q)
• It is passed with 70%
C. Practical Final Exam
• Devices Configuration - It is passed with 50%
D. Case Study
• It is passed with 50%
E. Practices book
• To evaluate the book, the student must deliver at least all the mandatory practices
• It is advised to extend the practices proposed to the planning of the course (optional)

F. Class attendance
• Two faults are allowed without justification for each module. As of the third foul without justification,
points will be deducted from the attendance note.
• To pass the subject, at least half of the classes must be attended for each module (except if there is a
justification for a major cause). Therefore, if the student does not assist, at least, half of the classes of
each module, the subject is automatically failed.
IMPORTANT: At most, two examinations per module can be suspended considering the Online and Theoretical Final exams (each test suspended deduces 0.15 points from the final mark of the subject = Penalty(P))
