Design and Usability I

Description
This course is based in the basic concepts of usability applied to Internet, mobile, interactive stands, etc. and in evaluating-with user´s techniques for a user-centered design (DCU), such as graphic design concepts and using the necessary programs to achieve successfully the digital creation. The sue subject focuses in analyzing and redesigning by means of process carried out in possible projects of real companies. .

Methodology

This subject is an on-site course. During classes and everything students need to acquire knowledge of the subject is explained and practiced. In addition other methods are used so that students can acquire efficiently the concepts presented. The different methods are:

1. Lectures:
The professor teaches the theoretical concepts of the subject through lectures along the course. During classes students are encouraged to ask questions involving both asking questions and answering the questions formulated by the teacher. This will make the classes more dynamic and participatory.

2. Personal exercises:
Several times during the course, a practical exercise about the studied themes is suggested to be solved at home. Also, in some themes, exercises are proposed to solve during class with the professor´s help.

3. Practical classes:
In parallel with the lectures, when the concepts are explained, students solve practical exercises so they can understand better the practical application and solve the technical doubts they could have.

4. Practices:
At the end of the course, students have to complete a practice in groups. It allows in one hand, to implement the global knowledge of the subject, and in the other to make a good design of the proposed requirements.

Evaluation

A. Exams
During the first semester students are evaluated by theoretical and practical exams.

D. Home works
Once in a while, students will have to solve at home some exercises about the themes studied in class.

F. Reports / Work done in group
At the end of course students have to make a group practice on the whole syllabus of the course. The practice must be completed with a report about the methodology followed during it and other aspects that are indicated in its statement.

G. Practical works with computer
The exercises that they have to carry out are practical; therefore they have to do them in a computer. At the end of each unit, students will have to carry out a practical work with the computer to evaluate the acquired concepts during the unit.

H. Projects
The practice consists of a statement that explains the client´s requirements. Students have to do the design taking into account the system´s usability and implement a part.

I. Presentations
When handing in the practice, students have to present the report to the rest of the class.

J. Class participation
Class participation: asking questions and answering the ones formulated by the teacher. It is taken into account in the Continuous Evaluation.
