Goals

The Master’s in Cultural Studies in Architecture prepares professionals to critically analyse the relationships between architecture, culture and society, exploring new approaches to research, mediation and professional practice. Its aim is to broaden the traditional boundaries of the discipline in order to address contemporary cultural, social and urban challenges.

Throughout the programme, you will learn to:

  1. Understand and interpret architecture as a cultural, social and territorial phenomenon, developing a critical perspective on how it shapes — and is shaped by — historical, political and social contexts.
  2. Integrate knowledge and methodologies from different disciplines, combining cultural theory, philosophy, sociology, history, research and architectural practice to address the complexity of the built environment.
  3. Apply research, analytical and experimental tools to examine the relationships between architecture, culture and society, generating knowledge from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective.
  4. Design innovative strategies and projects in mediation, communication, curating and cultural management, related to architecture and the built environment.
  5. Develop responsible and inclusive proposals, incorporating principles of sustainability, spatial justice, diversity and a gender perspective.
  6. Work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to processes of research, creation and knowledge transfer across academic, cultural and professional contexts.
