New undergraduate students speak up: “We are really eager to learn and create our own projects”

Students of Architecture, Engineering, Business & Management, Philosophy and Animation explain their first weeks on campus

The start of the 2025–2026 academic year has brought more than 870 new undergraduate students and more than 831 master’s and postgraduate students to La Salle-URL, a figure that consolidates the growth of the campus, which last year reached the highest number of students across all its academic programs, surpassing 8,700 enrolments. The incorporation of new students contributes to the diversity of an international and transdisciplinary campus where students and educators work by learning from one another to provide innovative solutions to the challenges of present and future society.

Among the students beginning this new stage on campus are Alexa Bohon, from the Degree in Architectural Studies; Gerard Gilabert, from the Degree in Computer Engineering; Martina Xicoira, from the Degree in Digital Business Design and Innovation; Maica Gibert, from the Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics; and Tiffany Mazorra, from the Degree in Animation & VFX.

La Salle-URL, a benchmark university centre

Currently, the campus offers more than twenty bachelor’s degrees through its four schools: the Higher Technical School of Architecture, the Digital School of Engineering, the International School of Commerce and Digital Economy, and the Faculty of Philosophy. Among the reasons that lead students to choose La Salle-URL to pursue their studies are internationality, innovation, educational excellence, contact with the professional world and campus life, among others.

I chose this degree because it seemed like an innovative and very interesting option. I had always been sure that I wanted to study something related to the business world, but I couldn’t find any program that fully convinced me. As I researched different universities, I discovered this degree and immediately fell in love with it: it is a practical program, designed for entrepreneurial people who want to create their own businesses and innovate in the future. In addition, the fact that it is in English allows you to improve and develop the language, a key tool for your professional future
Martina Xicoira, student of the Degree in Digital Business Design and Innovation

On the Open Day, when I had the opportunity to see the campus, what I liked the most was, on the one hand, the excellence of the facilities, well-kept, modern and with a clear commitment to technology, and on the other, meeting the faculty and some students, who conveyed very well the essence of La Salle-URL. Now that I am already part of the campus, I can say that everything they had transmitted to me I have been able to experience first-hand. The expectations I had have been more than exceeded. I couldn’t ask for more: the attention to students is excellent, and they don’t miss a single detail
Maica Gibert, student of the Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics

I think I am adapting quite well to the change from high school to university because so far the syllabus has certain similarities, but it is a bit difficult for me to combine living in Barcelona [Gerard is from Menorca] with competing in federated archery. Even so, I trust that I will be able to train enough to participate in the national championship in February or the one in July. On the other hand, having been awarded a scholarship has helped my family a lot, because I have a twin sister who lives with me and is in her first year of fashion design, and it probably would have been harder for us to face this new stage in Barcelona without the academic scholarship
Gerard Gilabert, student of the Degree in Computer Engineering

The growing internationality of the campus

This year, among the new undergraduate students, 34% are international; while among new master’s and postgraduate students, this percentage reaches 43%. Thus, the campus now has more than 116 different nationalities, figures that reinforce the international dimension, the strategic commitment to attracting talent, and global skills training at La Salle-URL.

Living in a new country and a new city has its challenges. Sometimes you feel that everything works differently from how it was in your home country, in my case, Colombia. Small situations or words make you notice these cultural contrasts. For example, the shock with Catalan was something unexpected for me. At first it was difficult, because many people speak it naturally and I felt a bit lost. But I decided to take it as a personal challenge: instead of getting frustrated, I used it as an opportunity to learn. Before, I didn’t understand anything, and now I already understand quite a lot and even reply. And honestly, I feel a lot of excitement and freedom. Of course, it is hard to leave your family, friends and roots, but I have always seen myself discovering new cultures, people and experiences. That’s why I fought so hard to get where I am now, studying abroad, specifically in Barcelona
Tiffany Mazorra, student of the Degree in Animation & VFX

Coming to study at La Salle-URL has been a great opportunity. I had always wanted to study in another country and making this dream come true has been incredible. Discovering Barcelona and meeting lots of new people is amazing. In the short time I have been here, I feel that I have grown a lot
Alexa Bohon, student of the Degree in Architectural Studies

For me, internationality is one of the most important keys of the degree, the fact of being able to meet people from all over the world. In fact, almost half of the class is foreign, which allows you to exchange languages, points of view and ways of thinking. For me it is a pleasure to share a classroom with international people who share the same interests as I do, as this allows you to open your mind and get to know the world a bit better
Martina Xicoira

Creating projects and growing professionally and personally

One of the main concerns among new undergraduate students is creating their own projects, learning new knowledge about their respective disciplines and growing personally alongside their new classmates.

I want to learn about the degree and about myself. I would like to spend a year abroad with an Erasmus program to discover another country. And I would also like, once I have completed the degree, to continue with a master’s
Alexa Bohon

I would like to get involved in larger-degree projects in animation, not only to gain experience but also to learn from different working methods and artistic styles. I am passionate about building connections and creating bonds with new people, both personally and professionally. I dream of developing my own ideas and original stories on campus and forming a solid team to turn them into something that connects with the audience
Tiffany Mazorra

I hope that the Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics will be a path full of challenges, new experiences and knowledge that will help me face the challenges of the future. I believe that the combination of these three disciplines is essential to understand an increasingly complex world. Philosophy should help me think in depth and with critical sense; politics, to better understand society and the role we have in it as citizens; and economics, to interpret the dynamics that move the world. I hope that the degree gives me the tools to be a critical, responsible person capable of contributing positively to society
Maica Gibert

Over the coming years, students will develop skills, learn new knowledge and live experiences that will help them grow professionally and personally. With their hopes and goals, they will build their own path and become people with values, who will contribute to the transformation of society and will forever share the bond with the community and network of La Salle-URL.
