Baile con la muerte wins the 2026 Fugaz Award for Best Short Short Film

The short film directed by Carlota Massó and produced by Brooder Lab adds a new accolade to a track record that already includes more than 23 awards

The animated short film Baile con la muerte, directed by Carlota Massó and created by a group of alumni from La Salle-URL's Bachelor in Animation & VFX, has been awarded the 2026 Fugaz Award for Best Short Short Film, one of the most prestigious recognitions in Spain's short film industry.

The film arrived at the 10th edition of the Fugaz Awards with two nominations, in the categories of Best Animated Short Film and Best Short Short Film. Ultimately, the project won in the latter category during the awards ceremony held at Kinépolis Ciudad de la Imagen in Madrid, which brought together nearly a thousand professionals from the audiovisual sector.

The short film's executive producers, Sergi Vizcaíno and José Luis Montesinos, accepted the award on behalf of the entire team, adding another distinction to a successful journey that has established Baile con la muerte as one of the most outstanding animated productions of the past year. The project was directed by Carlota Massó and produced by a team that also included ten fellow La Salle-URL alumni: Berta Alsinet, Paula Anglas, Núria Aranda, Martina Berney, Joan Cortit, Laia Domene, David Martín, Roger Menta, Víctor Moya and Gisela Torres.

This latest award further consolidates the short film's remarkable trajectory, which already includes more than 23 national and international awards and a place on the preselection list for the 2026 Goya Awards. Its continued presence at specialised festivals has positioned it as one of the benchmark works of emerging animation in Spain. Produced by Brooder Lab, La Salle-URL's incubator for content and emerging talent, the project reflects the campus' ability to foster creative talent and transform it into productions recognised by the audiovisual industry.

The creators of Baile con la muerte, emerging talent in the audiovisual industry

After completing their studies at La Salle-URL and launching the successful journey of Baile con la muerte, the creators of the short film have continued to grow professionally within the animation and audiovisual industries. After spending more than a year on Grupo Mediapro's VFX team, Carlota Massó recently joined Dr. Platypus & Ms. Wombat as Production Coordinator, a studio where Víctor Moya and David Martín also work as 3D Layout Specialists.

Meanwhile, after working at Antaviana VFX & Postproduction on the acclaimed production L'Olivia i el terratrèmol invisible, Berta Alsinet is currently developing her career as a Junior Digital Compositor at Flying Bark Productions, contributing to Stranger Things: Tales from '85, Netflix's animated series.

Likewise, Laia Domene Galceran is building her professional career as a Junior Technical Animator at 3Doubles Producciones, while Joan Cortit has accumulated more than two years of experience in Lighting, Render & Compositing at KOTOC. Martina Berney has specialised in 3D Rigging, Núria Aranda in 3D Modeling & Texturing, Roger Menta works as a 3D Generalist and Environment Artist, and Paula Anglas has developed an independent career as a 3D Artist specialising in Character Art, modelling, texturing and shading, contributing to a variety of audiovisual projects.

Alongside their professional careers, Núria Aranda, Carlota Massó and Joan Cortit continue to independently develop Baile con la muerte as a feature film, with the support of Brooder Lab.
