Ramon Llull University (URL) has earned a place in the top 76-100 of the best universities in Europe for teaching, according to the Europe Teaching Ranking drawn up by the prestigious Times Higher Education. These results consolidate URL's place as one of just 5 universities in Catalonia located in the Top 100 in Europe.
This is the second year the ranking has been put together, and is the first aimed exclusively at evaluating teaching. In putting together this league table, 14 indicators were used, grouped into 4 basic areas: engagement and interaction between the university and the students; resources for effective teaching; the results generated by the university; and the existence of an inclusive environment.
In relation to the area touching on the inclusive environment, URL is the 3rd best performing university in Europe. In this area, 4 indicators are taken into account: gender balance of teachers, gender balance of students, international student ratio, and Erasmus+ mobility.
The URL also stands out in the Engagement field, where it ranks as the 8th best European university. This area takes into account four indicators: student engagement, student interaction, student recommendation, and links with the labour market.
Half of the indicators in the ranking are obtained from the European Student Survey: a survey aimed at more than 125,000 university students from 18 European countries. The goal is to learn about what the important issues are for students, such as students’ engagement with their studies, interaction with teaching staff, the quality of services offered by universities, and opportunities to develop different skills that will help them prepare for their careers once they complete their studies.
The other indicators are obtained from data that universities send to Times Higher Education, an academic reputation survey, and Elsevier bibliometric data.
