Professors
Objectives and knowledge:
- To identify a feasible research topic / problem to solve in the student´s area of study;
- To establish clearly defined objectives and/or questions to be investigated;
- To design and implement an appropriate methodology;
- To demonstrate analytical skills and produce valid findings;
- To apply theory to practical reality;
- To draw appropriate conclusions and recommendations where necessary;
- To produce a well organised and well-written final document and an effective oral presentation of the thesis / project.
M1 - THESIS:
a. The students will do the thesis individually.
b. The students will have a monthly meeting with their promoters.
c. Students must complete a `Thesis Proposal Form´, by 15 September 2014, the student will not be permitted to submit a thesis during the 2013/14 academic year.
d. Students must make an oral progress presentation on January 26 and February 2 2015.
e. Students must hand-in a first draft of the thesis by 4th May 2015. If this draft is approved, students must hand-in the final document by 29 May 2015.
f. The word limit for the thesis is 10,000 words.
g. The word count must be stated on the contents page of the thesis.
h. Students will be penalised for exceeding the limit and theses at a rate of 10% for every 1,000 words and theses exceeding 12,000 words will not be accepted.
i. Format: Times New Roman font size 12 or Arial 11; 1.5 spacing; justified alignment; page numbers on all pages except cover.
j. Paper copies: One unbound copy per student to be handed-in to the administration office with envelopes in accordance with the deadline stated below.
k. Digital copies: One copy per student should be handed-in in digital (Microsoft Word) format on CDROM to the administration office in accordance with the deadlines stated below.
l. Students must meet the deadlines stipulated below.
m. All theses will be defended orally during the week of 22 June 2015.
n. Theses will be evaluated following the norms established by the Escola Tècnica d´Enginyeria Electrònica i Informàtica La Salle.
M2 - FINAL PROJECT:
Phase 1 - Future Studies - 25% of your Final Project Grade
We will post a series of videos of international experts talking about the latest and future trends on the following topics:
- economics,
- marketing,
- organizational management,
- innovation and technology
- social change
Questions will be posted on each of the topics. The students are to write a minimum of one 500 word essay on each of the topics. A deadline each of the essays will be posted and late entries are NOT accepted.
Each video will be followed up by a class discussion scheduled by the professor responsible for each topic on a date set by the area professor.
Attendance at all discussion sessions is compulsory.
Phase 2 - Research project - 75% of your Final Project Grade
a. The students will do the research project individually or in 2- person groups.
b. The students will choose a problem/challenge in different fields with respect to management, and will be asked to analyze this problem and come up with a feasible solution. The students should try to link the problem they select to one of the topics.
c. The research project deliverable will consist of two parts: A 15 minutes TED style video filmed by the student explaining the research topic undertaken and a hard copy and electronic copy of the final document to be submitted to the academic secretary.
d. The grade distribution with respect to the video and the final document will be 25% and 75% respectively.
e. Each student will be assigned to a promoter.
f. The students will have only three meetings with their promoters throughout the semester.
g. The minimum word count for the research project document is 8000 words if the final project is done by two students (not including appendix, although these should not exceed 5 pages) and 7000 words if the final project is done by one student.
h. If the paired students decide to work on their own later, they should submit 2 different projects separately, and the separation should be done latest on February 1.
i. The word count must be stated on the contents page of the research project.
j. Students will be penalised for exceeding the limit at a rate of 10% for every 500 words and projects exceeding 10,000 words will not be accepted.
