Description
This course presents a case of deployment of optical fiber between municipalities in one region, based on a real case. During the course the process to be followed in order to present a public contest of these characteristics and the design process of the entire network is analyzed.

Objectives

Learning outcomes for students who attend this subject, based on the curriculum of their Master's degree are:

1. Ability to design, implement and manage telecommunications networks and the integration of services in these networks
2. Knowledge of current technology trends with application to telecommunications

The overall objectives of the course are:

1. Learn to deploy wide area networks fiber
2. Learn to present a project to a public competition
3. Learn to analyze the profitability of a project
4. Present a proposal to an administration

Methodology

The training activities used in the course are:

- Assimilation of the concepts associated
- Personal work
- Evaluation activities

Each session is divided into two parts: the first part the teacher teaches the basic skills so that students can investigate and perform the task. The rest of the session is dedicated to implementing the case. The teacher assists students who need to clarify any doubts that may arise.

Evaluation

Assessment activities used in the course are:

- Work in group
- Class participation
- Examinations
- Presentations

The final grade is based on the assessment of the overall and individual and will consist of a weighted percentage between class marks, the deliverables and the mark of the final draft to be submitted to speakers who will evaluate, as if a real project was, the feasibility of the proposed design.

Evaluation Criteria

Both deliveries as the final work are evaluated according to different requirements that have been previously established. The evaluation group combines every mark with a weighting that depends on each delivery.
