As part of the Day of Ramon Llull, celebrated every year on 27 November, the Facultat de Filosofia La Salle-URL once again organised a gathering to honour the figure of the patron of Universitat Ramon Llull and highlight his intellectual and humanistic legacy. This year’s event, titled “Great books and the adventure of integral education”, brought together professors from various centres within the URL to reflect on the role of great texts in personal and university education. The session also served to remember Rector Josep Rom, recently deceased, who was a strong advocate of both this celebration and the figure of Llull.
The round table was moderated by Armando Pego, Professor at the Facultat de Filosofia La Salle-URL, and featured contributions from Professor Anna Pagès (Blanquerna-URL), Professor Oriol Quintana (IQS-URL), and Núria Gómez, Professor at La Salle-URL and coordinator of the subject Thought and Creativity. The speakers reflected on how great books can become privileged tools for fostering integral education, critical thinking and dialogue across disciplines. They also shared works that have personally shaped them, foundational books that inspire virtue and to which they return to discover new insights, often in the company of students, acting as mediators between the work and the students.
The day began with the presentation of the new issue of the journal Comprendre, dedicated precisely to great books and humanistic education. The presentation was led by Armando Pego himself, the journal’s Editor, together with Jordi Feixas, Academic Coordinator of the Philosophy degrees at La Salle-URL. Comprendre has recently received the highest rating in the Carhus Plus and CIRC systems, consolidating its position as a leading scientific publication in the field of philosophy.
