On Wednesday, December 4, starting at 4:30 p.m., the PhD student Ramon Ernesto Rosales Sebastià thesis defense will take place at Sala de Graus of La Salle Campus Barcelona. Entitled 'Intellectual Biography of Joan Baptista Manyà (1884-1976). Truth and Freedom', the thesis has been carried out under the direction of PhD Ignasi Roviró Alemany.
The work and thought of Joan Baptista Manyà i Alcoverro remain ignored in the marginalization of collective quotations and academic clichés. There is a contradiction between the importance of the character and the oblivion of his thought, which is only alluded to with truisms and textbook repetitions. This ignorance does not fit with the assessment, positive or negative, that is later made of his philosophical and theological ideology. In this sense, Gil i Ribas considers Manyà —along with Maragall, Cardó and Xiberta— as the clearest exponent of Christian thought in the early 20th century in our country.
The purpose of the thesis is to offer the main beams of Manyà's philosophy and theology to read his work adequately and contextually, as only in this way can an accurate evaluative judgment be made of Manyà's work, beyond the impoverishing and simplifying labels.
The tribunal is made up of the president, PhD Josep Montserrat Molas; the secretary, PhD Sílvia Coll-Vinent Puig; and the member, PhD Albert Moya Ruiz.
