1. REGISTRATION

The Master's Final Project (TFM) is registered, like all subjects, within the registration period of the degree. It should be remembered that the TFM can only be presented when all the subjects that make up the degree course being studied have been passed.

The registration of the TFM includes the possibility of presenting it in two calls: one ordinary and one extraordinary.

It should be noted that, in each of the different degree programs, the calls - both for the presentation of reports and for the public defense of the TFM - will establish their calendar, subject to the approval of the Academic Management.

TFM folder in the eStudy

In the folder of the Academic Secretary's Office of the eStudy you can find the regulations and the covers of the TFM.

2. INCOMPATIBILITIES FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE TFM

The defense of the TFM can only be done once all the subjects of the degree have been passed. Therefore, in order to be able to enroll, it is necessary to have taken or enroll in all the other subjects that make up the degree at the same time (taking into account any enrolment restrictions that may exist).

3. QUALIFICATION REGISTRATION

  1. Registration request
  2. Acceptance or rejection of the registration
  3. Modification of the register
  4. Project completion

The registration of the TFM is telematic and can be done by going to https://eSecretary.salle.url.edu (there is login and password) / Grades / Management / TFC/PFC/TFG/TFM/Registration TFC/PFC/TFG/TFM.

Registration may be started once the registration has been formalised up to 30 December if the TFM is submitted in February, or up to 31 March if the TFM is submitted in June or September. The registration must be completed before submitting the reports to the Academic Secretary's Office.

The assignment of the TFM director/tutor will be done in accordance with the procedures established by the degree coordination. Before starting the registration, the assignment of the FMT supervisor must be completed and the proposal must be agreed upon, as the supervisor must accept it.

Steps for registering and submitting a TFM:

1. Registration request

Through which the TFM director is selected and the TFM registration is registered. If there is also a co-director, only one of the two co-directors will be responsible for the data.

In the case of wanting to change the director of the TFM, this must be requested by the academic responsible of the degree.

2. Acceptance or rejection of the registration

The TFM director receives an e-mail with the student's application. Through this entry, the director of TFM can accept or reject the registration. In both cases, the student will receive an e-mail. If he/she rejects it, the entry "Request for registration of the designer" disappears from the folder of the FMT supervisor and the student has to go back to step 1. If you accept it, it becomes a new entry called "Project in progress".

3. Modification of the register

Once the registration has been validated, the student may make modifications to the project, which may be validated or rejected by the director of the TFM in the same way as in the acceptance or rejection of the registration.

4. Project completion

In the last step in the course of the TFM, and before the deadline for submitting the report, the student will enter his/her TFM folder again, select the "Project in progress" icon, enter the abstract of the project, including the report of the work in electronic format and activate the "Request for completion" option. The TFM director will again have the option to accept or reject the completion. If accepted, the entry "Project in progress" will become "Project completed", and cannot be modified again.

For any questions or problems with the registration you can send an email to helpdesk@salle.url.edu.

4. TFM DIRECTORS

All lecturers who act as the director of the dissertation must belong to the teaching staff. The director of the TFM will guarantee the quality and coherence of the specifications of the TFM, the roadmap for its execution and will guide the student in the completion of the TFM.

The director may attend the public defense, but will not form part of the panel, but will carry out his or her assessment beforehand, in accordance with the established criteria, and will inform the degree coordinator.

7. ASSESSMENT, GRADING CRITERIA AND AVERAGE MARK FOR THE UNIVERSITY MASTER'S DEGREE

In the Master's Final Project, the assessment is carried out by a panel and by the lecturer director/tutor. The evaluation of the TFM will correspond to the director/tutor of the TFM (25%) and to the examining board (50% on the work and 25% on the oral defense). The defense of the TFM will be before a panel formed by two professors from the faculty related to the fields of Philosophy, Humanities and/or Philosophy of Technology. The oral presentation by the student will last a maximum of 30 minutes, during which he/she will justify the work. He/she must also answer any questions posed by the examining board. The defense of the Master's thesis is a public event.

The grading criteria shall take into account the following aspects:

In relation to the written work, both the Tutor and the Selection Board will take into account the following criteria:

  • Overall evaluation of the work: clarity in the formulation of the objectives and problems, the internal coherence of the work, and relevance and originality.
  • Use of theories: explanation of the theories underlying the work, synthesis and integration of the theories and the topic, and contribution to theoretical advancement.
  • Research methodology: appropriateness of the methodology to the subject matter, and coherence and appropriateness of the conclusions.
  • Formal aspects: order and clarity in the structure, rules (spelling, syntax, etc.) and formal correctness, and updated and appropriate bibliographical references.

In addition, the Tutor will assess:

  • Evaluation of the process: organisation and monitoring of the work in phases by the student, punctuality in the deliveries according to the agreed schedule, and improvement of autonomy for research development.

In relation to the oral defence, the Court will also assess:

  • Oral explanation: communicative and informative skills, quality of arguments and debate, ability to defend one's own ideas, ability to synthesize, and adaptation to the time allotted.

For the purposes of calculating the average mark for the degree, the TFM will be weighted proportionally to the number of ECTS credits assigned in each student's transcript.

8. FORMAL ASPECTS OF THE MEMORY TO BE DELIVERED

A hard copy of the report must be handed to the Academic Secretary's Office together with the covers printed on paper and signed by the director of the TFM (and co-directors if there are any).

The format should be DIN A4. The font should be 11-point Arial, 12-point Times New Roman or equivalent.

The memory should contain:

  • A summary (maximum 200 words, in Catalan, Spanish and English).
  • Keywords (Catalan, Spanish and English)
  • A detailed table of contents with the decimal numbering of chapters and paragraphs.
  • Introduction, setting out the objectives, scope, theoretical underpinnings, options and methodology used.
  • Conclusions (and, if appropriate, future lines of action).
  • In the end, the bibliography. The complete bibliographical reviews that have provided the basis for the work should be included.

The recommended length is between 24,000 and 36,000 words (approximately 60 to 90 pages).

Specific regulations for each university master's degree

Specific formal guidelines, if any, established by the Academic Directorate or by the Degree Coordination in relation to the format and style of the text, citations and bibliographical references should be followed.

The report and the defense of the TFM is an individual task

UNIVERSITY MASTER'S DEGREE. Royal Decree 1393/2007, in reference to "Official University Master's Degrees", states in Article 15. Guidelines for the design of University Master's degrees, Section 3: "These courses will conclude with the preparation and public defense of a final Master's thesis, which will have between 6 and 30 credits".

This means that each student has to submit a report and make a personalised public defense.

9. STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITIES

In the event that the defence of the dissertation is subject to the publication of the marks of one or more subjects, the student must inform the degree coordinator.

In the event of not being able to defend in the scheduled call, for academic reasons or other situations, the report will be retained in the Academic Secretary's Office. In this case, the student must request the presentation of the report for the session that he/she considers appropriate, provided that he/she is enrolled, informing the Academic Secretary's Office and the degree coordinator.

It should be remembered that some degree programmes may have complementary rules on some aspects of the TFM that must be respected. Please pay attention to the indications of the degree coordinator.

10. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The intellectual property of all final bachelor's or master's degree projects defended at the School belongs to La Salle - Ramon Llull University. Exceptionally, the Management of the School may transfer these rights to the student or company that requests it. This matter must have been agreed prior to the defence of the dissertation.
