La Salle is present in 80 countries with schools and universities.

La Salle, founded in 1680 by Saint John the Baptist de La Salle in the French city of Reims, has from its beginnings been an institution dedicated to the human and Christian education of children and young people, especially the poorest. The Brothers of the Christian Schools introduced a series of innovations that revolutionized the pedagogy of the time and worked to facilitate access to education for children from the most disfavour social classes.

In 1900, Sant Joan Baptista de La Salle was canonized, and in 1950, he was proclaimed patron saint of Christian educators.

In 1990, UNESCO awarded the NOMA literacy prize to Lasallian institutions for their educational work.
