La Salle, founded in 1680 by Saint John Baptist de La Salle in the French city of Reims, has been an institution dedicated from its beginnings to the human and Christian education of children and young people, particularly those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Brothers of the Christian Schools introduced a series of innovations that revolutionised the pedagogy of their time and worked to facilitate access to education for children from the most disadvantaged social classes.

La Salle Network, regions and districts
IALU
The International Association of La Salle Universities (IALU), established in 1998, currently comprises 65 institutions around the world and promotes networked collaboration among all its members to uphold the relevance of Christian values and the charism of Saint John Baptist de La Salle in today’s university environment. Josep M. Santos, General Director of La Salle Campus Barcelona, is currently its President.
RELEM
Worldwide, La Salle is divided into five regions: RELAF, RELEM, RELAN, RELAL and PARC. La Salle Campus Barcelona is part of RELEM.
RELEM is the French acronym for Région Lasallienne Europe Méditerranée (Lasallian Region of Europe and the Mediterranean). It is a complex reality spanning 23 countries and 20 languages. It comprises eight Lasallian administrative units known as ‘Districts’ or ‘Delegations’. The great diversity of languages, as well as different historical, educational, political, religious and cultural traditions and demographic profiles, represents a challenge that is approached with enthusiasm.
The region, established in 2005, is not a governing body but rather a body for cooperation and animation, enabling the shared project of faith, fraternity and service to be lived out as a network. The Region represents around 470 educational institutions, 30,000 teachers and approximately 350,000 students.
La Salle in Spain and Portugal (Arlep District)
At La Salle, the mission is developed together and through association, remaining open to engagement with the surrounding environment, responding to local and global needs and continuously evolving. One of the districts that make up RELEM is the Arlep District, the Lasallian Association of Spain and Portugal.
To make this approach possible and carry out our mission, we rely on the participation of the district’s animation teams and the sectors of the Lasallian Educational Mission Assembly, the gathering that brings together members of the Lasallian family every four years to decide together on the future of La Salle.
The network in Spain and Portugal comprises more than 120 schools and institutions, offering educational stages ranging from early childhood education to higher education, which is provided at two university institutions: La Salle Campus Madrid and La Salle Campus Barcelona.
La Salle Catalunya
The approach that defines La Salle is characterised by shared responsibility, communion in decision-making, collective discernment among those involved in the educational process, and joint work and solidarity among all the educational institutions in the network.
In Catalonia, La Salle has 25 educational institutions, 20,000 students, 1,500 teachers and more than 200,000 alumni. Its institutions, located throughout the territory, offer all educational levels and have a solid educational project based on developing and stimulating each student’s intelligences.
