La Salle-URL reflects on the future of global architecture at the “Schools of Today. Schools of Tomorrow” conference

Within the Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture programme, schools discuss educational models, architecture, and urban planning

La Salle-URL Highet Technical School of Architecture (ETSALS) has hosted the Schools of Today. Schools of Tomorrow conference, a series of lectures and roundtables reflecting on the teaching of architecture and urban planning in both local and international contexts. Through this event, the campus brought together internationally renowned speakers, forming a constellation of partner schools that exchanged ideas, debated, and reviewed their academic proposals, reflecting on how they are addressing the challenges posed by the future.

The conference featured universities such as KU Leuven (Belgium), Sibaura Institute of Technology (Japan), Escola da Cidade (Brazil), Escola de Talca (Chile), Rice University (Texas), Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (Argentina), ETH Zürich (Switzerland), USC School of Architecture (California), and the University of Johannesburg FADA (South Africa).

The direct experience of architecture schools from around the world has made it possible to rethink the teaching of architecture and urban planning in light of the future challenges facing urban environments in many cities. Spaces have changed and must become resilient, adaptable to new emergencies, responsive to social needs, and open to technological advances.

As part of the official Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture programme, the conference brought together a high level of participation from professionals, students, faculty, and researchers, creating a space for exchanging experiences and fostering learning between institutions, collectively interpreting what it means to teach and learn architecture today.
