La Salle Campus Barcelona, an ecosystem of entrepreneurship, innovation and technology, launches the degree in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics

The program is the first of its kind to be offered in Catalonia.

In the framework of a society and a labor market in constant evolution, in which the analysis and understanding of data are essential for innovation and success in all sectors, La Salle Campus Barcelona - Universitat Ramon Llull will launch a new degree in Business Intelligence & Data Analytics in the academic year 2021-2022. The program will last four years and will train students in business management through a practical methodology and from a technological perspective. The degree, the first of its kind in Catalonia, will train students in data processing applied to marketing, logistics, business expansion and product design.

Designed with the endorsement of its experience in the fields of technology and management, La Salle-URL suggests with its new degree in Business Intelligence & Data Analytics an ethical application and the use of creative thinking to read and analyze data. It also does so with an experiential methodology and a practical approach, through the Learning by Challenge methodology -which allows students of all programs of La Salle Campus Barcelona to learn through challenges- and Smart Learning, the revolutionary teaching model of the institution based on remote attendance, which is committed to flexibility, personalization, technology and interactivity for the new normal in education.

One of the most demanded professions by companies

In the InfoJobs 2019 Status of the Job Market in Spain report, which shows the trends and characteristics of the Spanish labor market, the data analyst and business analyst appears in the first place among the emerging positions that continue to grow. Looking ahead to 2021, LinkedIn has carried out a study on the fifteen professions with the highest demand and, among them, has included specialists in data management and analysis. In this sense, and thanks to its close relationship with the business world, La Salle-URL has identified the growing demand for professionals in this field and has incorporated in its catalog of studies a degree perfectly linked to three of the pedagogical bases of the institution: entrepreneurship, innovation and technology.

On the other hand, Digital Talent Overview, the 2020 report that analyzes the state of digital talent, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, Mobile World Capital Barcelona and the Cercle Tecnològic de Catalunya, points out that the search for digital talent continues to grow in Barcelona: the demand for business intelligence professionals grew by 11% between 2018 and 2019 and, in the same period, there was an increase of almost 14% in the supply of those jobs. The report also states that digital jobs are the most demanded since the COVID-19 crisis and that the sector is one of the major drivers of job creation in Europe. To incorporate this international vision of the profession, the degree in Business Intelligence & Data Analytics at La Salle-URL will be taught 100% in English and will have two international stages.

Dynamic methodology with real challenges

The degree will use techniques in data science, analytics, business intelligence and big data, and will divide the program into three fundamental stages: understanding the business and identifying the problem; data processing, analysis and visualization; and identifying opportunities for business transformation. The development of the training will be enriched thanks to the entrepreneurial and international ecosystem of La Salle Campus Barcelona, which has a multicultural campus and La Salle Technova, one of the most important innovation parks in the country, which encourages entrepreneurship among students with projects, events and conferences of all kinds. As in the rest of the specialties taught at La Salle-URL, students of the Business Intelligence & Data Analytics degree will grow by sharing classes with classmates and professors of different nationalities in small groups, which facilitates the development of the key competences and skills of the program with a global perspective.
