Josep Maria Garrell, professor at La Salle-URL, leaves the position he held since 2012

The Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), of which La Salle-URL is a founding member, has a new rector: Josep Antoni Rom, who was vice-rector for research and innovation at URL. Last Friday, September 30, the URL rector's replacement ceremony took place, in which Rom took office in substitution of Josep Maria Garrell, professor at La Salle-URL, who has held the position for the last 10 years, since 2012, and has thus exhausted its mandate in accordance with the organization and operation regulations of the University. The URL Board of Trustees, chaired by Antoni Millet Abbad, made the appointment official last June.

Josep Antoni Rom has a degree in Contemporary History from the UB (1987), a doctorate in Advertising and Public Relations from the URL (2004) and a professor at the URL. In 1994 he co-founded the Blanquerna-URL Faculty of Communication and International Relations (FCRI), in which he held various positions before being appointed, in 2020, URL Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation. During the event, Rom applauded the work of Josep Maria Garrell, referred to the URL's mission and spoke about the institution's challenges around three axes: cohesion, values and innovation.

For his part, Josep Maria Garrell, in addition to congratulating the new rector and his team, reviewed his ten-year mandate and his entire career at URL, which began more than 30 years ago at La Salle-URL. The event was attended by Esther Morales, general secretary of the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and served to learn about the composition of the work team that will accompany Rom in the rectorate, which she joins as vice-rector from La Salle-URL Elisabet Golobardes, researcher and professor.
