Description
The aim of this course is to provide the basic conversational skills in Spanish, Chinese or German to interact in general social and business situations. Emphasis will be placed on practical interactive exercises that can be used in real life situations.

By the end of this course, students should be able to have achieved the objectives set up for this course and have developed the competencies listed below.
- Speaking Fluency in Spanish, Chinese or German.
- Reading Comprehension in Spanish, Chinese or German.
- Listening Comprehension in Spanish, Chinese or German.
- Correct Grammatical Usage in Spanish, Chinese or German.
- Writing Skills in Spanish, Chinese or German.

In addition, for those students studying English, there will be a focus on First Certificate of English (FCE) or Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) exam preparation

Evaluation

30% of your final grade will be based on Quality class participation. Quality participation being defined as active in-class participation, quizzes, delivering scheduled presentations, homework completion and for extra credit the completion of a designated MOOC on due date.
15% of your final grade will be based on the Mid-term oral exam.
15% of your final grade will be based on the Mid-term written exam.
20% of your final grade will be based on the Final oral exam.
20% of your final grade will be based on the Final written exam.

Exam review: Once the semester is over and final grades are posted, an exam review date will be scheduled.

Retake exam: A student is only eligible to do the Retake exam if all the coursework and exams due throughout the semester have been completed by the last scheduled day of class.
