This course will provide students with an understanding of a data driven idea of the level of globalization that exists in the world today versus an intuitive media based idea this concept. To accomplish this we will be participating in Professor Pankaj Ghemawat´s IESE MOOC on coursera.org `Globalization of the Business Enterprise´. Methodology

The course will consist of two parts:
1) Sign up and complete IESE MOOC Globalization of Business Enterprise. The classes during this first part will be a seminar type discussion and critical analysis of the weekly MOOC assignments. To understand these concepts, it is essential that required readings be completed on time. Classes are designed to maximize student participation and debate
2) A mixture of lectures, videos, case analyses, extensive readings and class discussions on global issues from Pankaj Ghemawat´s book World 3.0, Global Properity and How to Achieve it. The lectures will be analysis and expansion of the required readings. Students will present research on the topics selected.

Evaluation

There are three requirements to pass this course:

(1) To be prepared to participate in class discussions in an engaged and informed manner. Quality participation accounts for 25% of your final grade. Quality participation means involvement in class discussions (asking intelligent questions or contributing thoughtful insights). Quality participation implies being present in class so regular attendance is included in this portion of your grade. Attendance: You are allowed 4 absences during the course duration. These 4 absences (class misses) can be for whatever reason, at any time, and require no excu
se. Each subsequent absence will result in a deduction of 0.5 point per absence from the 25%. Exception to this is the midterm exam or the date when you are due to present your final presentation; failure to attend class on these days will result in a 0 mark for that portion of the grade.
(2) 25% of your final grade will be based on your performance on the Midterm Exam which will be based solely on the materials covered in the Globalization of Business Enterprise MOOC materials (lectures, readings and cases). The exam will test your understanding of concepts covered in the MOOC from Week 1 through Week 6.
(3) 50% of your final exam will be based on a 20 minute TED Talk like PPT presentation on a CAGE Distance Framework related Issue (based on a country of your choice and one you choose and begin to prepare in Week 3 of the MOOC course and continue to work on through Week 6, using the CAGE distance framework and Professor Ghemawat's mapping tool as your analytical tool). Format, quality of work, research conducted attested by proper references and presentation style will be assessed.
Retakes: If you fail the course you can take a Retake which consists of an exam and turning in any missing projects or assignments no later than the date the retake is scheduled. The grade you receive on the Retake will then be added to your original final course grade and the average will be your Final grade. For example if you received a final course work grade of 4 and received a 6 on your retake and you turned in all pending assignments you Final Grade will be a 5. If all pending assignments are not turned in by the date the retake is scheduled you cannot pass the course.
