Description
The aim of this course is to explore how diversity and cultural factors influence management across national borders.Emphasis will be placed on the changing role of national culture amidst accelerated globalizing processes. The course will problematize the (implicit) post-colonial or Eurocentric model frequently used in management models proffered as universally applicable.

This course seeks to assist you in:

Developing an understanding and awareness how culture and race impact management.

Understand the basic concepts of culture, race, and diversity.

Understanding and applying the cultural dimensions to different intercultural management contexts and situations.

Developing the capacity to deconstruct cross cultural management from a critical perspective.

Developing the basics of cultural intelligence.

Topic 1 Introduction to Cross Cultural Management.

Topic 2 Overview of key issues in Cross Cultural Management.

Topic 3 Cultural dimensions applied to current events and to current leadership/management.

Topic 4 Application and critique of the cultural dimensions.

Topic 5 Cultural intelligence/cultural competence/intercultural communication applied to working in a diverse world.

Topic 6 Group work on critical applications of CCM.

Topic 7 Class presentations.

Topic 8 Individual reflections and write-up.

Topic 9 Effective cultural management in action.

Methodology

The learning experience is based on a range of teaching methods that seek to foster your understanding of cross cultural management.

The class sessions will consist of discussions based on assigned readings, individual reflections, debates, group discussions and activities, individual and group presentations.

Evaluation

The course grade will be based on the following point breakdown:

Attendance and participation: 30%

Individual or 2 person presentation: 10%.

Group presentation/ a video: 25%

Short individual reflection paper: 10%

Midterm exam: 25%
