‘DAVI’ shortlisted for Best Animated Short Film at the 2027 Goya Awards

The short film, produced by Brooder Lab, is directed by Júlia González and created by a team of La Salle-URL Animation & VFX graduates

The short film DAVI, directed by Júlia González, a La Salle – Universitat Ramon Llull alumna, is among the 15 films shortlisted in the Best Animated Short Film category, competing for a nomination at the 41st edition of the Goya Awards. Produced by Brooder Lab, the incubator for emerging content and talent founded on campus, the film is the result of work by a team of Animation & VFX graduates: Júlia González, Manel López, Mario Durán, Rubén Fernández, Sergi Galindo, Alex Merino, Isaac Lasheras, Jeremy Ocaña and Adrià Planells.

“For the second consecutive year, a production originating on campus and developed through Brooder Lab has made it into the 15 best animated short films in Spain,” explains José Luis Montesinos, executive producer at Brooder Lab alongside Sergi Vizcaíno. Both highlight the significance of this selection: “Being shortlisted recognises an approach to audiovisual creation that puts emerging talent at its heart. A nomination would be a dream, and we will give it our very best shot.”

DAVI tells the story of two siblings forced to leave everything behind because of an armed conflict. The film explores the human consequences of war and combines themes such as family and love with a message of hope. “The short film tells the story of two siblings who are forced to leave everything behind. It addresses timely and important issues, telling a story of war, family, love and all the lives that a conflict can cut short,” concludes José Luis Montesinos.

Brooder Lab supports its productions on the festival circuit

Throughout 2025 and 2026, Brooder Lab has simultaneously supported the distribution of DAVI and Ramen for Two, two projects by La Salle-URL alumni that have gained recognition at national and international festivals. DAVI has been selected for 53 festivals and competitions and has won 8 awards, including Best Original Score at the Filmets Badalona Film Festival, Best Animated Short Film at the Luleå International Film Festival (Sweden) and Best Sound at the Semana de Cine de Medina del Campo.

Meanwhile, Ramen for Two has received 21 festival selections and 2 awards: Best Animated Short Film at BARCIFF and Best National Short Film at Mundos Digitales. It was also selected for Out on Film in Atlanta, a qualifying festival for the Oscars, Goya Awards and BAFTAs. Both short films are also contenders for the Forqué Awards.

The Spanish Film Academy will announce the final nominations on 15 December 2026, and the 41st Goya Awards ceremony will take place on 6 February 2027 at the Navarra Arena in Pamplona.

The journey of these two productions reinforces Brooder Lab’s role as a production and professional development platform for emerging talent at La Salle-URL, supporting graduates beyond the classroom and helping bring their projects to the wider audiovisual industry.
