VHIR and La Salle-URL sign an agreement to promote academic, scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation

The institutions will carry out joint activities in areas such as biomedical research, artificial intelligence, health engineering, and computer science

The Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), the center of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital that promotes and develops biomedical research, innovation, and education, and La Salle Campus Barcelona, a founding member of Universitat Ramon Llull that encompasses seven areas of knowledge, have signed an agreement aimed at strengthening academic, scientific, technological, and cultural collaboration between the two institutions.

  • The agreement establishes a cooperation framework through the La Salle-URL Partners Program, which will enable joint activities in various fields of interest such as biomedical research, artificial intelligence, health engineering, and computer science. Among the planned collaboration areas are:
  • The promotion and development of activities to encourage the use of STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics)
  • The organization of courses, seminars, meetings, and conferences to foster training and research
  • The promotion of collaboration to enhance both formal and continuing education, as well as the development of studies and research projects
  • The organization of activities, events, and programs that promote R+D+I
  • The promotion and support of activities that facilitate the professional integration of students
  • Any other action related to the institutions’ objectives, as jointly decided

The first of these activities was a visit by La Salle-URL students to the VHIR, where they had the opportunity to learn about the role of artificial intelligence in research with Joan Carles Peiró, Director of Digital Transformation at VHIR and Coordinator of the Bachelor in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at La Salle-URL; Andrea Guala, Principal Investigator of the Cardiovascular Diseases Research Group; and Queralt Martin, from the Molecular Imaging and Therapy Group at VHIR.

The agreement also includes the creation of a Joint Commission, composed of representatives from both institutions, responsible for planning, monitoring, and evaluating the activities carried out. This commission will prepare an annual report detailing the completed activities and proposals for the following academic year. Specific actions derived from the agreement will be formalized through individual arrangements defining objectives, responsibilities, resources, and project duration.

The agreement will be valid for three years from the date of signing, with the possibility of extension, reinforcing VHIR and La Salle-URL’s commitment to excellence in research, professional training, and knowledge transfer to society.
