Thinking and Creativity I will combine seminars with the case study method and problem-solving sessions.

The theory covered will be linked to current issues relating to the students’ own experiences.

Group discussion and reflection on the topics covered in class will be encouraged.

Students will be required to take notes and read certain texts at home, as well as prepare materials to present and discuss with the rest of the class.
 

ASSESSMENT

The Thought and Creativity module will be assessed on a continuous basis:

• Exams*: 45% of the mark (in-person exams)
• Assignments*: 40% of the mark (oral presentations, writing tasks via eStudy)
• Attendance, attitude and participation: 15% of the mark

*If a student has a recognised condition (learning disability, dyslexia, etc.) that means they require more time to complete an assignment, they must notify and provide evidence of this to their tutor in advance, and inform the PiC3 lecturer 14 days before the assessment activity. If deemed appropriate, the lecturer will offer 25 per cent extra time. 

The final mark for the module will be the average of the marks from the first and second semesters. If the average is 5 or above, the module will be passed. Otherwise, the module will be failed and the student must sit the resit assessment.

For the purposes of the campus regulations on copying, face-to-face examinations, oral presentations and writing assignments via eStudy shall be regarded as highly significant assessment activities; online questionnaires shall be regarded as moderately significant activities. 

According to the regulations, full or partial cheating – whether premeditated or not – in highly significant assessment activities will be considered a serious offence; in moderately significant assessment activities, it will be considered a minor offence. 

In accordance with these regulations, the following procedure will be followed upon detection of cheating: 

• Serious offence: a mark of 0 for the current official examination session and exclusion from the next official examination session (with a mark of ‘Did not sit the exam’).
• Minor offence: a mark of 0 for the entire assessment activity in question.

The supplementary assessment will take place in early July. There will be two options: the full academic year or just one semester (the 1st or 2nd). It will consist of an exam in which the student must answer various questions on the syllabus. To pass, students must not only study the course material but also the recommended reading list (class notes and readings alone will not suffice). The maximum mark for this assessment period is 5.  

Any student who has sat the examination under the correct conditions is entitled to a review of their marks. For the marking of the various assessment tasks, and for both the ordinary and supplementary examination sessions, requests for a review must always be made within two weeks of the marks being published. Once this period has elapsed, the marks will be final.
