The Thinking and Creativity course will follow a continuous assessment system:
- Examinations*: 40% of the final mark (in-person examinations)
- Assignments*: 45% of the final mark (online quizzes and written assignments submitted via eStudy)
- Attendance, attitude and participation: 15% of the final mark
*If a student has a documented condition (ADHD, dyslexia, etc.) that means they require additional time to complete an assessment activity, they must notify their tutor in advance and provide the relevant supporting documentation. They must also inform the PyC2 lecturer 14 days before the assessment activity. Where deemed appropriate, the lecturer will grant the student 25% additional time.
The final mark for the course will be the average of the marks obtained in the first and second semesters. If the average is 5 or above, the student will have passed the course. Otherwise, the student will have failed the course and will be required to take the resit assessment.
For the purposes of the campus regulations on academic misconduct, in-person examinations and written assignments submitted via eStudy will be regarded as highly significant assessment activities, while online quizzes will be regarded as moderately significant assessment activities.
Under these regulations, copying all or part of another person's work, whether deliberate or unintentional, in highly significant assessment activities will be considered serious misconduct; in moderately significant assessment activities, it will be considered minor misconduct.
Under these regulations, where copying is detected, the following measures will apply:
- Serious misconduct: a mark of 0 for the current official assessment period and loss of the right to sit the next official assessment, for which the student will receive a mark of 'Not Attended'.
- Minor misconduct: a mark of 0 for the entire assessment activity concerned.
The resit assessment will take place in early July. There will be two options: assessment of the entire course or of one semester only (first or second). It will consist of an examination in which students will be required to answer a range of questions on the syllabus covered during the period they need to resit. To pass, students will need to study not only the course materials but also the specified reading. The maximum mark available for this assessment is 5.
Any student who has sat the examination under the appropriate conditions is entitled to request a review of their examination. For all assessment activities, as well as for both the ordinary and resit assessment periods, a review must always be requested within two weeks of the publication of the mark. Once this period has elapsed, marks may no longer be changed.
