Students from the School of Architecture participate in a new edition of Llum BCN with fire as the main element

The students' project was exhibited from 7 to 9 February in the Poblenou district of Barcelona

The students of the La Salle-URL Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSALS) have participated once again in Llum BCN, the festival of light arts that took place from February 7 to 9 in the Poblenou neighbourhood of Barcelona. This edition, the 14th, has continued to focus on the convergence between art, science, technology, and society, and ETSALS is once again present with a proposal that explores the relationship between light, fire, and the community.

Inspired by the ancestral duality of fire – an element that has always been both destructive and creative – the students of La Salle Campus Barcelona intended for this year's installation to showcase the transformation process experienced by the Poblenou neighbourhood, which went from being an abandoned industrial hub in the 1980s to becoming one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city today.

The proposal presents a stepped structure built with wooden pallets, on top of which translucent tubes rise. Through light projections, these tubes simulate the movement of flames, creating a fascinating play of lights and shadows that surrounds the viewer.

The project, which has been seen in Poblenou, at 189 Avinguda Diagonal, was designed by students Paul Díaz, Daniela Moreno, Egi Kazazi, Rosario Sialle, Alisa Koghelaevskaia, Jordi Dalmau, Andrés Rodríguez, Alberto Rosés, Mamdouh Masarani, and Andrea Aguayo, under the guidance of professors Manel Parés, Joan Vera, and Victor Barberán.

With this installation, the students of ETSALS continue to contribute their innovative vision to Llum BCN, a festival that each year transforms Poblenou into a large laboratory of art and technology with the participation of artists and students from all over Barcelona and the world. In the last edition, more than 240,000 people visited the Barcelona Light Arts Festival.
