Increasingly, global social, economic and environmental challenges demand greater competitiveness from communities, which calls for rapid adaptation to the changes brought about by the current knowledge economy. Added to this is the open and innovative economy that craves proximity and a talented and mobile knowledge workforce that needs a growing sense of belonging. Innovation is considered one of the main tools to provide quick and sustainable responses to these needs that are renewed with such speed and to establish an epicenter that grants appropriate conditions for all these agents to coexist and interact in close proximity generates an agile ecosystem in search of solutions integral, connected to local strengths, but also competitive at an international level.

An innovation center is a physical space that brings together researchers, creators and innovators to nurture and transform ideas into industry-changing products and services. They enable learning to innovate, become more agile, customer-centric, purpose-driven, profitable, efficient or disruptive, they form the backbone of an Innovation Community and must have strong management that enables collaboration within the center itself and with partners from other centers. Given that they unite organizations from different sectors, countries and disciplines, the Innovation Centers are the main instrument for managing activities and the flow of knowledge.

Working for its development constitutes a regional and international competitive strategy promoting the formation, attraction and development of a territory's scientific and technological vocations, as global competitive variables, as well as the development of new technologies in different areas of interest.

The Innovation Centers are the Epicenters of the Innovation Ecosystem and at the same time orchestrators of the Ecosystem, making the center promote as much as possible the interaction of its members to interrelate Talent, Technology, Financing and at the same time be a platform for activities for to territorial, economic, social and governance development.

The aim of this project is to achieve a Metamodel of Innovation Centers in Catalonia in 10 dimensions (Information, Innovation, Internationalization, Investment, Talent, Territory, Sectors, Society, Local Network and International Network) differentiating them by type of municipality. In this project, a document will be produced with agreed academic quality and rigor and with the involvement of a team of project experts.

This document aims to be the starting point for the implementation and development of the different projects in the different municipalities of Catalonia and to allow the obtaining of a strategic plan for Innovation Centers that is real, practical and viable for each of the different Catalan municipalities depending on their size.
