La Salle-URL Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSALS) is organizing a range of events and activities as part of Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, running in parallel with the official programme. In this context, the presentation of the new publication series, entitled Learnings from, stands out. It will take place at the Sala Mirador of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC), located at Plaça Nova, 5, in Barcelona. The event is open to the public and does not require prior registration.
Learnings from is a collection born from the desire to delve into a pedagogy grounded in direct observation, critical thinking, and situated experience. The guiding premise of this collection is clear: travel constitutes an irreplaceable method of learning, capable of articulating theory and practice, academic knowledge and lived experience, reflection and discovery.
Each volume focuses on a different city and proposes an approach that reflects how we understand, study, and engage in dialogue with the territory. This perspective is structured around the School’s three “A”s: Architecture, as the material expression of the cultural, social, and technological systems that shape space; Academia, as the critical framework from which to interpret, contextualize, and debate; and Architects, as active voices, past and present, who, through their work and thought, reveal the multiple layers of each city.
Within a single format, the collection combines the rigor of a book, the practical purpose of a guide, and the personal dimension of a travel journal. Its contents are designed to accompany the reader before, during, and after experiencing the city, generating a continuous framework for learning that integrates preparation, immersion, and subsequent reflection. Thus, Learnings from does not merely describe an urban context; it seeks to activate a way of seeing, recording, and understanding the territory from an open, critical, and sensitive perspective.
This editorial series aims to recognize in every city a living laboratory of architectural thought: a space where disciplines intersect, questions multiply, and experiences become knowledge. Learnings from is, ultimately, an invitation to learn through travel and to understand architecture as a constant dialogue between places, people, and ideas.
All activities carried out by the La Salle- URL Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSALS) in 2026 take place as part of its commitment to Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture.
