Pope Francis's pontificate has been marked by a vision committed to peace, justice, fraternal solidarity, and the means to promote and preserve it. On the occasion of his passing on Easter Monday, the Facultat de Filosofia La Salle-URL, together with the Rectorate of Universitat Ramon Llull, is organizing a roundtable discussion to reflect on his hopeful legacy.
The event, which will take place on Wednesday, May 28, starting at 6:00 p.m., is open to the public and does not require RSVP. The speakers participating in the session are:
- Brother Josep Espuny
Deputy President of the Board of Trustees of FUNITEC, the Foundation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools that manages La Salle Campus Barcelona. He holds degrees in Religious Sciences and in Philosophy and Educational Sciences. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the URL. He specializes in grief and illness counseling. He is President of the Research Ethics Committee at La Salle-URL. He is Professor of Anthropology at the Facultat de Filosofia at La Salle-URL.
- Francesc Torralba
Director of the ETHOS Chair of Applied Ethics at URL. Member of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See and of the Royal European Academy of Doctors. He is a winner of the Ratzinger Prize (2023) from the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation. He teaches and promotes Christian humanism in major media outlets. He is the author of 1.800 articles and has published 100 books.
- Margarida Bofarull
A nun of the Sacred Heart, a physician, and a theologian. She has been a member of the Governing Council of the Pontifical Academy for Life of the Vatican since 2022. She heads the Delegation for Faith and Culture of the Archdiocese of Barcelona and is a member of the Advisory Council for Religious Diversity. She is President of the Board of Trustees of the Borja Institute of Bioethics-URL.
- Llorenç Puig
Jesuit. Professor of Ethics at IQS-URL. He holds a PhD in Physical Sciences from the UAB. He holds a degree in Theology from the Centre Sèvres in Paris. He has served as the Jesuit delegate in Catalonia and as Director of the Center for Christianity and Justice. He is a member of Entxartxad, a solidarity group with Chad. He researches the relationships between ecology and religion, faith and science.
- Armando Pego (moderator)
He holds a degree and PhD in Hispanic Philology from the Complutense University of Madrid, specializing in Literary Theory. He is also a Professor of Humanities. He is also a principal investigator in one of the research lines of the Smart Society Research Group at La Salle-URL.
