Brother Joaquim Morató i Comerma, one of the key figures behind the creation and development of La Salle Campus Barcelona and Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), passed away at the age of 97 after 80 years of religious life as a De La Salle Brother. Throughout his life, he played a pivotal role in the development of the university project of the De La Salle Brothers in Catalonia, becoming one of its leading institutional driving forces and a decisive figure in the consolidation of both the campus and Universitat Ramon Llull.

Brother Morató served as the first Chairman of the FUNITEC Board of Trustees, the foundation of the De La Salle Brothers that governs La Salle Campus Barcelona, and was one of the architects of the campus's university project in its early years. As Provincial of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, he signed the founding charter of Universitat Ramon Llull Fundació on 10 October 1989 on behalf of La Salle and became a member of the University's first Board of Trustees, making a decisive contribution to its foundation.

Born in Manlleu on 8 August 1928, Brother Morató joined the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1945 and devoted eight decades of his life to the Lasallian educational mission. He enjoyed a distinguished career as an educator and academic leader across several La Salle institutions, notably serving as Director of La Salle Bonanova School on two separate occasions, as well as Provincial Auxiliary Visitor and Provincial Visitor. His leadership, institutional vision and commitment to education defined a lifetime of service and established him as one of the most influential figures in the development of La Salle in Catalonia.

Brother Joaquim Morató leaves behind a legacy closely linked to the creation and development of La Salle Campus Barcelona and Universitat Ramon Llull. Those who knew him remember a man of strong convictions, a rigorous yet humble leader, distinguished by his ability to drive new initiatives, encourage others to grow and embrace new challenges with determination and optimism. He was a steadfast advocate for the development of the University, combining discretion with courage, a profound spirit of service, an unwavering commitment to the Lasallian mission, and a deep belief in the transformative power of education.
