La Salle Campus Barcelona-URL participates in the 16th Live Research Fair

La Salle Campus Barcelona-URL will be present at the 16th edition of the Live Research Fair with the Group of Research in Technology Enhanced Learning (GRETEL), where students of Architecture, Multimedia Engineering and Computer Engineering of the University participate.

The project, which is called EduGameCity, consists in the design and implementation of the 3D visualization with virtual and augmented virtual reality systems of the city of Barcelona, such as the "superilles", and the study of the Improvement of the user's motivational, social and spatial competencies. The project is part of the project coordinated with the UPC GAME4CITY and its main objective is to improve the architectural teaching and the competence of the students of Architecture.

At the Fair, with virtual reality glasses and through interactive elements, attendees can shape the urban public space, according to their criteria and collaboratively, configuring elements such as spaces for children's games, urban gardens, vegetation ,lighting ,recreational and cultural activities, among others.

The gamification - application of techniques and dynamics of games to other areas - offers an opportunity to promote citizen participation processes through elements of virtual reality that facilitate an immersive experience. The objective of the project presented at the Fair is to bring all citizens the technology of virtual reality so that they can participate in the definition of the uses of the public spaces of the city of Barcelona such as the superiors of the Urban Mobility Plan (PMU ) 2013-2018, and help to build the city that everyone wants.

This gamification in the field of urban design, through elements of virtual reality, offers a double opportunity: on the one hand, it generates an improvement in citizen participation due to its dynamic, real and agile character, breaking the digital divide with the citizen; On the other, it allows students to learn and make decisions that are important and applicable in various areas of knowledge.

The Life Research Fair is held from April 11 to 14 and is organized by the Barcelona Science Park and Obra Social "la Caixa" . More than 75 researchers from eleven leading centers in Catalonia will participate, moving their laboratories to CosmoCaixa Barcelona, where the fair will take place.
