EcoSentinel, an innovative and sustainable research project led by La Salle Campus Barcelona, a founding member of the Universitat Ramon Llull, has won the RPremi Emprenedor Revolució 4.0 Sostenibilitat 2025 at the 7ª edició dels Premis Emprenedors Digitals del Revolució 4.0, the Catalunya Ràdio program dedicated to entrepreneurship and digital transformation. The award ceremony was attended by La Salle-URL researchers Jaume Anguera, Júlia Sánchez and Alan Briones, coordinator and principal investigator of the project, representing the team; and a campus representation formed by the Director of the La Salle-URL School of Engineering, Guiomar Corral, who presented one of the awards, and the Director of Research and Innovation, Rosa Ma. Alsina.

The project, funded through the European Innovation Council of the European Commission, works to lead environmental sustainability by integrating advanced technology into natural processes, developing solutions that respect and preserve biodiversity and the environment. EcoSentinel takes advantage of the biological processes and nature of living plants to give them the necessary means to become digital nodes of a network capable of monitoring themselves autonomously and thus establish a new wireless communication system. This approach aims to improve the protection capacity of forests and other ecosystems and introduce a communication system with negative carbon emissions that will allow environmental monitoring to prevent and mitigate critical events such as forest fires and biodiversity loss.

EcoSentinel is an initiative promoted by the Blended Networks Architectures research line, of the Smart Society group, and consolidates La Salle-URL as a reference university center in the research and knowledge transfer of projects with impact that contribute to a more sustainable development of society.

La Salle-URL research at the IEEE Metrology for Industry 4.0 IoT

On July 2 in Castelldefels (Barcelona), on the occasion of the IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for Industry 4.0 IoT, La Salle-URL researchers will participate in a series of conferences and round tables. On the one hand, representatives of the EcoSentinel team, formed by different European universities and institutions, will present the progress of the project in a presentation entitled ‘Techno-Natural Systems: Sustainable Wireless Communications for Ecosystem Preservation’. On the other hand, the professor and researcher of the campus and co-founder of Ignion, Jaume Anguera, will speak at the main conference of the event; and finally, several La Salle-URL researchers will present papers related to their respective research lines and projects.
