Construction III

This course looks at the anchorage of a building and how it settles into the ground, together with its structural solidity, from the constructional point of view. From an architectural point of view, the typologies and materials are analysed together with a study of how they are used on the building-site. This enables us to understand the structure not as an additional element of the architectonical conception of the building but as part of its essence.

Students who complete our course on CONSTRUCTION III, STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS acquire the knowledge and develop the skills listed below:

The course is organised around the theoretical classes given by the professor, together with three projects realized by the student individually, in class groups and at home. This work is followed up weekly in the classes.
The first practical exercise is based in the definition of the designing and grounding of an existing building, and is done completely in class. The second exercise consists of redesigning the grounding and the structure of the project developed by the student on the previous course. This is done at home and followed up in class hours. The third exercise is based on the study of diverse structures of existing buildings, realised at home and in class.

The evaluation system takes into account classwork, and the written exams and the practical work handed in.
