Carla Zou Yin Rodríguez Rubio, a graduate in Electronic Engineering from La Salle-URL and currently a student in the Master’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, has been awarded first prize in the Electronic Systems Engineering category at the 19th COITT Future of Telecommunications Awards, held in Madrid by the Official Association of Technical Telecommunications Engineers (COITT) and the Spanish Association of Graduates & Technical Telecommunications Engineers (AEGITT). The award recognizes her bachelor’s thesis on robotics applied to safety in public spaces.
In her project, entitled Predictive Collision Avoidance (PCA): A Novel Pedestrian-Collision Detection System for Public-Area Mobile Robots Using Trajectory Forecasting, Carla Zou Yin developed an intelligent system that enables mobile robots to detect pedestrians and anticipate potential collisions through trajectory prediction. This solution is particularly relevant in public environments, where the coexistence of people and automated systems poses new safety challenges.
In this edition of the COITT Future of Telecommunications Awards, 46 projects submitted by students from universities across Spain were presented in different categories. This annual initiative, promoted by the COITT University Network, aims to foster values such as innovation, excellence, continuous learning, adaptability to change, and the ability to address the challenges associated with digital transformation.
