This course seeks to assist you in:
Developing an understanding and awareness how culture and race impact management.
Understand the basic concepts of culture, race, and diversity.
Understanding and applying the cultural dimensions to different intercultural management contexts and situations.
Developing the capacity to deconstruct cross cultural management from a critical perspective.
Developing the basics of cultural intelligence.
Topic 1 Introduction to Cross Cultural Management
Topic 2 Overview of key issues in Cross Cultural Management
Topic 3 Cultural dimensions applied to current events and to current leadership/management
Topic 4 Application and critique of the cultural dimensions
Topic 5 Cultural intelligence/cultural competence/intercultural communication applied to working in a diverse world
Topic 6 Group work on critical applications of CCM
Topic 7 Class presentations
Topic 8 Individual reflections and write-up
Topic 9 Effective cultural management in action
The learning experience is based on a range of teaching methods that seek to foster your understanding of cross cultural management.
The class sessions will consist of discussions based on assigned readings, individual reflections, debates, group discussions and activities, individual and group presentations.
The course grade will be based on the following point breakdown:
Attendance and participation: 30%.
Individual or 2 person presentation: 10%.
Group presentation/ a video: 25%.
Short individual reflection paper: 10%.
Midterm exam: 25%.
In addition to the cases we will be discussing in class, you will be provided with a range of additional materials through the University intranet.
