The course "Thinking Technology in the Current World" aims to foster active and collaborative reflection on technology, drawing from the works of contemporary thinkers as well as early modern philosophers who anticipated ideas still relevant today.
Rather than approaching these authors as specialists, the course encourages participants to delve into and contemplate some key ideas associated with modern technology. It invites engagement in the debates these ideas have generated, which are often surprising and rich in both practical and intellectual insights.
Technology has become an integral part of our personal and professional lives, taking various forms depending on different circumstances and professions. Consequently, it is increasingly vital to cultivate a certain distance in our perception of technological media. This distance helps facilitate intellectual comprehension, uncover unforeseen perspectives in our daily lives, and even aids in making informed decisions regarding the myriad alternatives presented by these media, both in our individual and collective existence.
Carles Llinàs earned a PhD in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1995, with a thesis focused on the philosopher-theological thought of Ramon Llull, specifically on the topics of gnoseology and the doctrine of angels. His thesis was honored by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. Presently, he serves as a Professor at Ramon Llull University and holds the position of Dean at the Faculty of Philosophy.
