LIVING IN BARCELONA:

  • Is it necessary to speak Catalan to be able to communicate both in the city and on campus?

Not necessarily, speaking Spanish or English is enough to communicate both in Barcelona and on campus. Barcelona, being a cosmopolitan city, is prepared for visitors from all over the world and at La Salle, being an international University, multiple languages are spoken.

Even so, although it is not mandatory to learn Catalan to live in Barcelona, it is a gesture of goodwill towards the local culture and can improve integration and communication. In addition, learning a new language is always an enriching experience that can open doors to new opportunities in the professional field.

You can find more information about Catalan courses here: Study Catalan before arriving in Catalonia. Department of Research and Universities (gencat.cat)

  • Do I need a visa? Can I travel to Barcelona before the program starts and use a tourist visa and once the course starts activate the student visa?

Depending on the country of residence will determine whether a visa is required or not and depending on the type of studies you come to perform.

In case you need it, we recommend that you come directly with your student visa (not tourist visa), since the procedures from here could take a long time.

For more information and personalized attention, please contact students-office@salleurl.edu.

  • How much does it cost to live in Barcelona, approx. per month?

According to our International Student Guide, the cost of living in Barcelona ranges between 1110€ and 1360€ per month. This amount will vary depending on the type of residence you choose (the location, whether you live alone or sharing an apartment) and the spending habits of each person.

ADMISSION PROCESS:

  • If I am an international student, do I need to validate / apostille my degree?

All degrees must be apostilled with the Hague Apostille.

It is only necessary to validate the degree of your country if you wish to access a qualifying master's degree (for example: qualifying master's degree in Architecture or Telecommunications).

For more information and personalized attention, please contact students-office@salleurl.edu.

  • Do I need to have work experience to be accepted to a Master's or Postgraduate program?

This will depend on the master's degree or postgraduate program and will be determined in the interview with the academic coordinator during the admission process.

  • What do the cycle and countercycle modalities refer to and on what date do they start?

Cycle is the mode of study that starts in October until September and counter-cycle is the mode that starts in March until February.  Before enrolling in a master's or postgraduate program, you should confirm whether it is available in cycle or counter-cycle.

  • What is the difference between Master and Postgraduate?

The difference lies in the time of study.  The Master has a minimum duration of 2 semesters and the Postgraduate has a duration of 1 semester.

  • Once I have been accepted, do I need to pay a reservation fee?

Yes, that's right. Once accepted in the master, you will receive an email with the positive resolution of your application and the steps to follow to formalize your enrollment. The first step will be to pay a reservation fee of €1,000.

When full payment is made, the €1,000 reservation fee will be included in the final total price.

  • What are the main differences between a university degree and a degree of its own?

University degrees can only be issued by universities recognized by the government (such as the URL of which La Salle-URL is a member) and are accredited by the relevant educational authorities. These degrees can be homologated and validated in other countries, which means that they are recognized internationally and allow you to access graduate programs, such as a doctorate, anywhere in the world.

On the other hand, the degrees can be awarded by both university and non-university educational institutions. These degrees are not usually recognized outside the country in which they were earned, which means that they cannot be recognized or validated in other countries. Generally, these types of degrees are of a professional nature. In addition, they do not usually give access to postgraduate programs, such as a doctorate.

It is important to note that the validity and recognition of degrees may vary from country to country and from educational institution to educational institution.

  • Does the Master's Degree include mandatory internships?

No, they are not mandatory. Internships are optional. Students have free access to the La Salle-URL job bank, where they can find multiple offers, both internships and employment at national or international level.

  • At the end of the Master's program, do I receive a degree/diploma? How long does it take to receive it?

At the end of the Master's program, you will have to process your diploma by paying the relevant administrative fees. In the case of an official degree, it usually takes about 2 years because the degree is issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education. In the case of an official degree, it usually takes about 1 year because it is issued by the Rectorate of the University where you have completed your studies, in this case the Ramon Llull University.

*In the case of pursuing a Master's degree without a previous university degree, you must process the degree directly with La Salle.
