The Dome logo

 "The Dome" is a workshop area where students and researchers closely work in multimedia projects. It has been conceived as a space to foster the creativity and multidisciplinary work, key elements of a truly multimedia project.

In "The Dome" students and researchers jointly work in real media projects proposed by real companies.


Among others, the facilities of this workshop are following:

 ARvision-3D Goggles

These Augmented Reality Goggles allow us to mix reality with our own virtual gadgets. Through the cameras located at the eyes position, we record a real scene and make some changes on it by augmenting it with digital assets.


 Wacom Cintic 21UX

 It is a Tactile 21-3’’ TFT display where we gain a memorable experience by using an external pen with 1024 levels of pressure, 5080 lpi resolution, and several levels of inclination ( 10º-65º).


 Phantom Premium 6DOF

 The well-known Phantom haptic device can simulate movements such as cutting with a scalpel within a virtual reality simulator with an extreme accuracy. The Robotic Arm provides with 6 DOFs (provided degrees of freedom like translations and rotations in the cartesian 3 axis) and a force feedback system to simulate tactile feedback.


 5DT Gloves

 Two wireless Data Gloves that send continous tracking information to our stations. Those have 14 sensors situated in each glove, within the intersections of the fingers. We can perfectly simulate hand movements and track them for any simulation.



 Intersense Intertrax2

 This peripheral brings us the possibility to track our movements while providing with 3 DOFs (rotations around the 3 cartesian axis). We can attach it to any head mounted display or to a joint that needs to be tracked in real-time.



 The CyberTouch dataglove offers the possibility to deliver some tactile feedback, to some extent. It has 6 vibrators, one for each finger, and one in the center of the palm. They can be activated separately at any time.

We can use it for the simulation of touch. When we touch something within our virtual world, we transmit this sensation to the user through the vibrating capsules.


 Intersense InertiaCube3

 This peripheral is the evolution of the Intertrax2 sensor. It tracks rotations (3 DOFs) while being small and providing with a new interface that allows us to connect it via Ethernet. The InertiaCube3 is ideal for head or body tracking.


 Polhemus Fastrak


 This magnetic tracker brings us the possibility to track our movements with 6 DOFs. We can track either the position and the rotation and retrieve the parameters introducing them within a virtual camera, for example. The advantage of this system is that we always know where the sensor is and not only in which direction it is moving, in world coordinates.


 Polhemus Liberty Latus

This magnetic tracker also offers 6 DOFs, both position and orientation. It is a wireless system and then, less intrusive than other wired systems.



 ImmersaDome 2.0

 The ImmersaDome display is a 2x2 meters dome where we can project spherically while offering a really good sensation of immersion. It can be used for all kinds of projections such as interactive driver/flight simulations or video streamings.


 5DT Head Mounted Display

 The 5DT HMD offers a 3D stereoscopic vision of any application, that is sense of depth. This HMD (head mounted display) works by using the Frame Sequential method. It comes built with two little LCDs, one for each eye. This, combined with a special render scheme as cited before, gives us the third dimension “sensation”. This HMD has sound capabilities and it is weightless.


 Other Peripherals

 We also have other peripherals such as HMDs (like the well-known and obsolete, but still robust and precise!, VFX3D plus some Cybermind headsets and the popular I-Glasses), 3D mouses from Superscape and Force Feedback (Haptic) Joysticks and Wiimotes.
