Dr. Álvaro García Piquer is member of the Smart Society research group and lecturer at La Salle - URL. He has a BSc and MSc in Computer Engineering, an MSc in management of innovative and technology-based companies (2012), and an international PhD in artificial intelligence (2012). He developed his PhD research in the Research Group in Intelligent Systems (GRSI) from La Salle - URL and in The Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning research group of The University of Nottingham (UK), supported by the Government of Catalonia (FI and BE grants). He was awarded in 2012 with the "Marc Esteva Vivanco" prize for the best PhD thesis in artificial intelligence by the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence (ACIA).

Since 2007 he has participated in several R&D projects granted by the Spanish Government and the European Commission. First as member of GRSI and from January 2013 to december 2017 as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Space Sciences (IEEC-CSIC), where he was focused on researching and applying artificial intelligence techniques in the automation of ground and space observatories. From January 2018 to November 2022 he worked in a few companies leading the data science team and applying innovative industrial solutions based on data science.
