This line is concerned with the development of tools, methods and strategies at the scale of the building and at of the city - in order to guarantee the sustainable and balanced transformation of the built environment. The research topics are grouped in two areas:
- Urban regeneration: Rehabilitation of obsolete buildings and urban environments to adapt them to current demands, taking into account social, energy and economic sustainability. Definition of patterns of intervention in architectural heritage (especially in the Mediterranean area) based on sustainability criteria (environmental, social, and economic).
- Energy efficiency: ecological and environmental impact (of the project and of the constructive systems); energy systems (tools and methods for modelling and analysing the energy information of buildings and urban environments; passive systems); simulation and prediction of energy performance.
