IAR Integrated Architectural Research embraces two research groups:
- ARC Architecture Representation Computation is a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to the design, development and application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector (AEC). The group started its activities in 1999. Since then, the group has carried out an intensive research activity in research projects funded by European and national programmes, most of them coordinated by the group. Some of the most prominent research topics and projects are energy information systems to support energy efficiency in buildings and cities (SEMANCO, ENERSI, REPENER), decision-support systems to improve building energy efficiency (OPTEEMAL, OPTIMUS), building component catalogues compatible with BIM technology (BAUKOM), computer-supported modular housing systems (BARCODE HOUSING SYSTEM), pedagogic innovation in housing studies (OIKONET, OIKODOMOS), and participatory analysis of public spaces (PROHABIT).
- IAM Mediterranean Architecture Investigation was founded in 2008, and was recognized as research group by the Ramon Llull University in 2012. Its activity focuses on the preservation and dissemination of Mediterranean architecture at the building and urban scales, with an emphasis on architectural design and cultural heritage. The group has carried out projects about sustainable regeneration of architecture, public spaces and coastal landscape which have been funded by local institutions and national research programmes (ERAM).
IAR Integrated Architectural Research has been recognized as a Research Group by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) in the framework of the 2017 SGR Call (2017 SGR 1327). We have also been recognized as a member of the tech-transfer TECNIO Developers by ACCIÓ, the Agency for Business Competitiveness of the Catalan Government.
