1.FIRST YEAR STUDENTS:

If you are a first year student there are three options depending on the origin:

A. Students from the Spanish educational system.

B. Students from European education systems, Switzerland, International Baccalaureate, China or other countries with bilateral agreements with Spain.

C. Students from other educational systems.

The different requirements are listed below:

A. Spanish educational system.
If you have studied in Spain or in a Spanish school outside Spain, you need to have passed the selectivity tests (PAU) or present your vocational training diploma (CFGS).

B. European educational systems, Switzerland, International Baccalaureate, China and other countries with bilateral agreements with Spain:
If you have studied in one of these educational systems you only have to submit the credential granted by the UNED that certifies that you comply with the access requirements to the university.

UNED is the body responsible for converting your qualifications to the Spanish educational system.
To obtain the UNED credential you must enter your web page (www.uned.es).
The process can be complex but we offer support from the admissions department.

The documentation that you must provide is:

  • Photocopy of your ID (if you are Spanish) or passport.
  • Certified photocopy ** of these documents:
    • Diploma or degree that gives you access to the university in your educational system. Those who come from the British system (A levels) must also send certified photocopy of the GCSE and CCE A2 certificates.
    • Academic certificate of the last two years of secondary education (or all three, depending on the education system).
  • Proof of payment of the UNED rate.
  • Printed and signed copy of the credential application.

* UNED only accepts photocopies compiled by its associated centers or by embassies and consulates delegations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain.

* If you come from the Chinese education system, you must submit a sworn translation into Spanish of all the required documentation.

C. If you come from other educational systems:

If you have studied in an educational system different from those mentioned in the previous sections you must validate your secondary studies to the title of Spanish baccalaureate.

The validation is a process by which the Spanish Ministry of Education validates your studies as if you had studied in Spain. The credential obtained is equivalent to having the title of Spanish Baccalaureate.

The validation is a long process that usually takes up to 12 months to be achieved, so it is advisable to start the process as soon as possible. The Spanish Ministry of Education allows you to register with the receipt obtained in your validation.

To obtain the validation:

  • Before requesting the validation, you must apply at the embassy or consulate for the legalization of the academic certification and the diploma or degree that gives you access to the university in your educational system.
  • Legalization is the procedure that certifies the authenticity of a document through the signatures and stamps of the competent authorities. If the country of origin where the studies were taken is subscribed to The Hague Convention, a single legalization will be sufficient. If the country of origin where the studies were taken is not subscribed under the Hague Convention, you must legalize diplomatic channels through the following procedure:
    • The documents must be sealed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where you took your studies.
    • The documents must also be stamped by the embassy or consulate of Spain in the country where you have studied.
    • All the stamps must be on the diploma and on the academic certification, and not on the translation thereof.
    • Once you have all the required stamps, the diploma and academic certification must be translated into Spanish by an official sworn translator. The translation must be direct into Spanish.
  • When you apply for the validation of the title at the Spanish Embassy or Consulate, you must present this documentation:
    • Photocopy of the academic certification already legalized and translated into Spanish. You must present the original so that the embassy or consulate is left with the photocopy that will compel.
    • Photocopy of the diploma or degree that gives you access to university studies in the country where you have studied, legalized and translated into Spanish. You must submit the original so that the embassy or consulate has the photocopy that will compose.
    • Photocopy of ID (if you are a Spanish citizen) or passport. You must present the original file so that the embassy or consulate is left with the photocopy that will compel. If the documentation is submitted by another person, you must carry an authorization signed by you.
    • Proof of payment of a fee to be paid to the Spanish Ministry of Education. You will able to make the payment with the instructions available in the related documents.
    • Application form duly completed.
    • Duly completed conditional registration slip.
  • You must request the processing of the Validation Credential. There are 2 ways of doing it.

1. To process all the necessary documentation in the embassy or consulate of Spain in the country where you reside. For this you must go to the embassy of Spain of the country where you reside and present the documentation previously detailed. Once the documents have been delivered, you must ask for the photocopies of the documents "application for validation of foreign non-university degrees or studies" and the "flyer for conditional registration in educational centers or official exams" with the seal, as a guarantee that the process has started.

2. To process all the necessary documentation in Spain. For this you must go to the Ministry of Education of Spain and submit the above detailed documentation. Once the documents have been delivered, you must ask for the photocopies of the documents "application for validation of foreign non-university degrees or studies" and the "flyer for conditional registration in educational centers or official exams". The ministry will contact you via postal mail, so the postal address details must be complete and up to date.

Go to the website of the Spanish Ministry of Education for further information (www.mecd.gob.es).
