In anime and manga: "If you have good characters, you have a good story". This sentence of Koike Kazuo, a famous manga scriptwriter, was one of the lessons that Rumiko Takahashi put into practice flawlessly and ended up becoming the creator of some of the most popular manga and anime in history: Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura or Inuyasha. Manga and anime have offered a large number of iconic characters, some of them world-famous.
In this practical course, you will learn the secrets of the mangaka to create your own characters and translate them into epic stories. We will analyze together some of the key works, you will understand the basic elements of manga and anime language, and you will put them into practice by creating your own characters that end up being potential transmedia franchises.
You can choose to enroll for one week or the full two weeks. Week 1 of the course is global for all students, you will be introduced to Anime and learn the language of manga and its demographics: shonen, shojo, seinen, josei.
During Week 2 you will learn how to design characters, create worlds (worldbuilding), design merchandising and animate in 2d with toonboom harmony At the end of the second week, you will present your project in class.
During the program, you will enjoy an international environment with students of different nationalities and in small groups. You will also meet Felix Balbas, director of the Degree in Animation and VFX, and Xavi Bové, director of the Degree in Digital Arts. Their lectures will allow you to learn about the world of animation and digital art and their professional opportunities.
The Summer School is offered 100% on-site modality and in English, so it is necessary to have an intermediate level to make the most of the experience and discuss with colleagues of different nationalities.
You are able to choose between participating for one or two weeks and you can also choose the schedule that best suits you:
- From 10am to 2pm, to attend the classes of your specialty.
- From 10am to 3pm, to attend school classes and lunch included in our campus.
- Full day with accommodation in our residence, located inside the campus. Includes activities scheduled on campus from 10am to 4pm, cultural and leisure outings, and activities on weekends. Learning and fun will go hand in hand thanks to the a group of instructors who will accompany you to make your stay even more comfortable. “
