CICYT TIC97-0787-C02 - Ionospheric Communications radio link using Spread Spectrum between INTA (El Arenosillo) - La Salle (Ramon Llull University)

The project of ionospheric communication contains a high compression of voice for very low rate transmission adapted to channel the conditions. In collaboration with the Communications research group, channel estimation algorithms, equalization and synchronization algorithms for the receiver system are being studied, considering that the communications system works with spread spectrum.

Project funded by Televisió de Catalunya entitled "Development of a high quality Catalan speech synthesis system and its integration into Microsoft SAPI"

The project contained the design and implantation of a Catalan text-to-speech converter system with recording, segmenting and labeling a voice data base and the optimization of the synthesis method. The current phase consists of the integration of this system to Microsoft SAPI (Speech API)  for its use from any Windows application.

Financed project by The M. E. Müller Foundation and entitled "Automatic classification tool for the Müller's Comprehensive Classification of Fractures (CCF) of Long Bones"

The goal of this project is the automatic classification of long bones fractures using X-rays. Active models image processing techniques are applied in order to identify the fracture. This allows fracture characteristics extraction (i.e. bone orientation, monofragmentary and multifragmentary) and its classification, which is carried out in collaboration with Intelligent Systems research group.

CICYT DPI2000-1352-C02-01 research project entitled "Autonomous robot navigation guided by visual objectives" leadership for PhD. Enric Celaya from Institute for  Robotics and Industrial Computer Science (IRI: http://www-iri.upc.es). Duration: 1/1/01 a 1/1/04

The part implemented by our group focuses on the extraction of 3D information from the analysis of the active contour deformation in a sequence of monocular images. The development is based on a guidance robot application working in non structured environments in order to reach a visual goal. The obtained 3D information corresponds to the robot movement with respect to the objective, the time to the contact with the objective, and the environment structure.

ALGTEC: Algebra applied to the technological world

ALGTEC (ALGebra and TEChnology) is a multimedia application that tries to approach the student to algebra world and to some of its applications in the technological world. It is an application that helps the student understanding the way in which some algebraic concepts are the basis of technical applications. ALGTEC allows the student to experiment with this concept carrying out simulations that help them to validate his/her reasoning.

Other projects are:

bulletFacial expression recognition to improve man-machine interfaces
bulletSign-to-voice conversion for deaf and dumb people, collaborating with Speech Processing research group
bulletResearch project entitled "Emotion speech study by high quality speech synthesis", in collaboration with the Audiovisual Communication Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
bulletAutomatic diagnosis of cancer of breast, collaborating with Bellvitge Hospital and with Intelligent Systems research group
