Maria Rosa Mànich
Vice President, European Client Operations, Picis

MªRosa Mànich (Vice President, European Client Operations at Picis) holds a degree in electronics engineering from La Salle University, an executive MBA from the ESADE School of Business and has participated in other post graduate courses in La Salle University and in the Sloan School of Management in Boston.
MªRosa joined Picis in 1995. Picis is a global provider of innovative information solutions that enable rapid and sustained delivery of clinical, financial and operational results in the acute care areas of the hospital. MªRosa has worked in several areas of the company, including development and software quality, professional services, worldwide client operations and general administration. While taking care of client operations worldwide, MªRosa was based in the US headquarters for two years. Currently, she oversees all client operations activities of the company in Europe and Asia/Pacific.
During her carreer at Picis, MªRosa has participated in other key projects such as the creation of the Picis client operations department, company reorganization activities after M&A’s and in several strategic clients and partners initiatives.
Xavier Llobera

Xavier Llobera holds a degree on Computer Science Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia and MBA from ESADE Business School.
Xavier Llobera has more than 15 years of experience in the ITC sector, working for enterprises such as Apple Computer, Cluster Consulting, Telefónica group and Microsoft, where he held positions in management consulting and sales. Currently, Xavier is Business Development Manager at Microsoft’s Productivity Innovation Center.
Jordi Busquets-Cervera

Jordi Busquets is the director of the Barcelona IBM Innovation Center and leader of the IBM Academic Initiative for Spain with focus on the development of ecosystems of innovation between universities, ISVs, software developers and IBM.
Additionally, he is responsible of the technical resources of the IBM European Banking Industry Solution Center and an international group of SOA architects.
Previously Jordi was responsable of software product development at the IBM Barcelona Lab.
Jordi holds a Computer Science degree and an MBA by ESADE and the York University (Toronto). He is lecturer at several technical and business schools.
Miguel Vidal
Chief Technology Officer, Techideas

Miguel Vidal (Chief Technology Officer at TechIdeas) holds a degree in physics from the University of Barcelona, Msc in Fourier Optics and a Msc. in Telecommunications Engineering from the UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya). Before join Techideas he was at Sun Microsystems, where he was Senior Software Architect for over seven years. He is considered to be one of the leading Java experts in Southern Europe and has been a regular speaker at Java One, Jini Community Meeting, Java Conference, Java Expo and other Java events internationally. At Sun, Miguel Vidal was responsible of the software research projects in Europe, in particular leading the technical coordination of he Digital Business Ecosystem Project. Prior to working at Sun Microsystems, Miguel Vidal was IT manager at Retevision (second spanish Telco operator), responsible for the IT infrastructure required to launch leading Spanish ISPs such as: Iddeo, Alehop and EresMas. Before that, Miguel Vidal was at BaaN, where he was in charge of the New Technologies Department and the Rapid Intervention Task Force. He began his career as a consultant for CENTRISA, SDS and Atos Origin working on the first Interactive Television Platform (Telepick), built for the Spanish Public Television Broadcaster (TVE) which was presented at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Miguel Vidal has collaborated as a Master's Professor at University Pompeu Fabra, at University of Barcelona and University Ramon Llull.
He has participated in multiple proposal evaluations for EU IST within FP6 and is also on the review panel of two running IST projects.
Prof. Lluís Jofre

Professor of the Telecommunication Engineering School, UPC

Lluís Jofre (s’79-M’83-SM’07) was born in Mataró, Spain in 1956. He received the M.Sc. (Ing) and Ph.D. (Doctor Ing.) degrees in Electrical Engineering (telecommunications eng.), from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain in 1978 and 1982, respectively.
From 1979 to 1980 he was Research Assistant in the Electrophysics Group at UPC, where he worked on the analysis and near field measurement of antenna and scatterers. From 1981 to 1982 he joined the Ecole Superieure d’Electricite, Paris, France, where he was involved in microwave antenna design and imaging techniques for medical and industrial applications. In 1982, he was appointed Associate Professor at the Communications Department of the Telecommunication Engineering School at the UPC, where he became Full Professor in 1989. From 1986 to 1987, he was a Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, working on antennas, and electromagnetic imaging and visualization. From 1989 to 1994, he served as Director of the Telecommunication Engineering School (UPC), and from 1994-2000, as UPC Vice-rector for Academic Planning. From 2000 to 2001, he was a Visiting Professor at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Henry Samueli School of Engineering, University of California. From 2002 to 2004 he served as Director of the Catalan Research Foundation and since 2003 as director of the UPC-Telefonica Chair and director of the Promoting Engineering Catalan Program “EnginyCAT”. He is a member of different Higher Education Evaluation Agencies at Spanish and European levesl. His research interests include antennas, electromagnetic scattering and imaging, and system miniaturization for wireless and sensing industrial and bio applications. He has published more than 100 scientific and technical papers, reports and three books and chapters in specialized volumes.
Prof. Erik de Graaff

Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Engineering Education

Erik de Graaff (1951) graduated at the University of Amsterdam in 1978, majoring in the psychology of work and organisation. Starting with his first job at the Research Institute of applied Psychology in Amsterdam his interests focussed on learning and teaching in higher education. From 1979 till 1990 he has been involved in the development of the Problem Based curricula of medicine and health sciences at the University of Limburg in Maastricht. In 1990 Dr. de Graaff was invited to join TU Delft in order to support the process of educational innovation at the Faculty of Architecture. In 1994 he was appointed associate professor in the field of educational innovation at the department of didactics in the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy, a position which has shifted to the faculty of Technology Policy and Management.
Dr de Graaff has been a visiting research professor at the University of Newcastle, Australia in 1995 and a guest professor at Aalborg University in Denmark since 1999. The collaboration with Aalborg University in Denmark resulted in an appointment as extraordinary professor (adjungeret professor) in September 2007.
Dr de Graaff has contributed to the promotion of knowledge and understanding of higher engineering education through publications and through participation in professional organisations like SEFI - the European Society of Engineering Education, IGIP - The International Society for Engineering Pedagogy and ALE – Active Learning in Engineering Education. In 2006 Dr de Graaff was appointed as associate editor of the European Journal of Engineering Education. Since January 2008 he is Editor-in-Chief of the EJEE.
Elisa Sayrol

Telecommunication Engineering (Electrical Engineering) School of Barcelona at UPC

Elisa Sayrol received the Telecommunication Engineering and the doctoral degrees from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) Barcelona, Spain in 1989 and 1994, respectively. She’s currently Associate Professor at the same University since 2001.
From 1990 to 1991 she was a graduate student at Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA and from 1991 to 1993 she was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, USA where she worked with Professor C.L. Nikias.
She teaches undergraduate courses in Signals and Systems and graduate courses in Digital Image Processing. Her research interests include image and video analysis as well as image and video watermarking. She has more than 30 publications in these areas. She has participated in several European and National founded projects.
She was Associate Dean for International affairs at the Telecommunication Engineering School of Barcelona at UPC from 2001 to 2006 Under this position she established agreements with Universities in many countries and started exchange agreements with Chinese Universities. In 2003 she was in charge of designing and coordinating a new International Msc. in Information and Communication Technologies. It was one of the first master programs at UPC totally taught in English.
Since 2006 she is the Dean of the Telecommunication Engineering (Electrical Engineering) School of Barcelona at UPC. As a dean, she has leaded a deep reform to adapt study plans towards the creation of the European Higher Education Area. She’s a member of the CDIO Southern/Middle Europe Group, an initiative throughout the world for producing next generation of engineers.
Francesc Miralles
Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneuship Institute

Francesc Miralles is Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute, and professor of IS strategy and Innovation Management at BES La Salle, Ramon Llull University. His Ph.D. was received from the Politechnical University of Catalonia. Dr. Miralles obtained an MBA from ESADE. Before joining BES La Salle, he held a position of Executive Director in the Information Society Observatory of Catalonia (FOBSIC). For six years Francesc was a professor at the University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, where he held a Dean position and was involved in the implementation of several new programs in the Telecommunications studies at the undergraduate and graduate level. He has been active in adapting educational curricula to the EHEA framework. He led two EHEA adaptation projects that were both awarded with the Distinció Jaume Vicens Vives by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2005 and 2006.
Francesc has previously served as senior researcher on the PriceWaterhouseCoopers-IESE eBusiness Center, and as associate professor on the Information Systems Department at ESADE Business School. His current research interests are in the area of Technology Management, Innovation Management and Social Entrepreneurship. Francesc has also served as executive manager of several IT companies.
